What's this part?

So.....finally completed my throwout bearing replacement for the first time and notice a cyclinder "shaft" or something. I recall seeing that same exact part when I sent my shep trans to get rebuilt almost 7 months ago and the package included this part and have no clue what it is for. Attached is the old one which I found just chillin on top of my trans once I was complete. Any idea what it is and does it have to be installed and where in the world does it go? Shep sent two of these shaft things. I checked every connection, thinking it slid into one of the holes connecting the transfer case to the trans, but couldn't fit it. Thanks.

Measurement wise, it's maybe 3/4" long, 1/2" wide

Im looking at small pics on my phone but looks like the locator/dowel used to locate the transmission bellhousing to engine block. 2 of these are usually on the block side and when you install tranny..

Jesus, do they have to be installed or would not running without one cause any trouble because damn if I plan to rip this out again anytime soon. It does look like a metal dowel though. Thanks

So do you have one or none on either mating side of trans or block?

I have one, and in order to install the other I do I have to drop the trans again or could I simply unbolt whichever spot it is and slide it in?

They need to be there to line it all up. If its out you can wear or break clutch parts or the input shaft.

So the final question, where are these two dowels suppose to go exactly? I recall 3 bolts at the top, one bolt towards the rear that actually connects to the block itself. Do I have to drop the entire trans again or something else?

When you take trans back off look at the mating side....look at the bolt holes an youll see a sleeved area around the bolt hole....thats were they go....gl

Thanks, luckily I have a friend able to come over Friday to help with this. If I can muster enough strength I *might* start ripping everything back out...for the third time. I really need a new DD, ever since I upped my power, seems like it's always down, god knows what it'll do when I toss in the BB Black when I get it....

Live and learn man....you should invest in a dd....youll make power when the black is on!
