After Cams and E85, I gained 7WHP? Help me.
Before I explain my situation, I want to throw out there that I am not bashing anyone or any company involved I am simply displaying my results.
So everyone, I have an evo 9 with full bolt ons with a tune that made 341 AWHP and was tuned at e-spec in Long Island. Mods follow on "bolt-on" setup - AMS TBE AMS FMIC ETS Upper & Lower ICP Walboro 255 Perrin Intake Tune 341AWHP Then, around March I bought GSC S2 Cams, ARP Bolts, Springs, Retainers, and 1200cc Injectors. Myself and the mechanics here at the Monticello Motor Club built the head. We cleaned it completely, new timing belt, water pump, serpentine. You name is we put it on. I called E-spec and explained to him what I had on the car and that I wanted to be tuned for e85 and for the new head. He said come on down. I live upstate New York, its a good 4 hour drive from e-spec which is located in Long Island. I left my house at 11pm to head there, driving through the city at 1 am only for less traffic. Once I got there at about 330AM In my suv that was trailing the evo i slept and waited for him to open at 11AM. We finally got on the dyno at 4pm......... did 3 pulls and the graph wasn't looking good. He asked me if I had stock o2 housing on the car. I said yes. He started explaining to me that the stock o2 housing was choking the exhaust flow coming out of the engine. After the cams, the head work, injectors and e85. I made 7 more AWHP then I did before. I was shocked and couldn't believe it. Like I said Im not bashing e-spec. I like Erkel he has done well with my car in the past. I just want to get everyone elses opinion. I called STM and they promised me 380awhp with just the injectors and the E85, No cams. People with the same setup as me are hitting 410-430 AWHP. Could an o2 dump really make my car jump 50+ awhp? I really can't see an o2 housing restricting that much WHP. He said once I get an 02 Dump on the car drive down (another 8 hour trip) to check on the air fuel and do some street pulls and maybe some tuning. I asked him if I could get dyno pulls when I come back down, He said he would have to charge me a 100$..... I was charged 450$ for the e85 tune and a 50$ boost leak check for the day I made an extra 7awhp.... I feel like I was getting overcharged... especially for the results I received. I did a lot of work, spent a lot of money, and spent a lot of time for 7AWHP. I am legitimately depressed. STM Just came out with an o2 Dump. I will be purchasing that. Then I need to make a decision. Go to E-spec for another street pull tune up or try STM that promises the numbers that everyone else is getting and try a different tuner. Could the stock o2 housing really choking the motor THAT bad. I know its probably choking it a little but were talking 50awhp - 70 awhp difference. I know dynos are different. But most everyone that had this setup ranged from 400-430. not even in the 300's. Let me know what you think. |
Interesting.. I would assume that it wouldn't choke the HP this much.
I would post up your logs if you have them also your tune. How much boost are you running? Are you sure there was no boost leak? what are your AFRs.. Devil might be in the details here |
I was not given any logs or tune....
He checked the boost leak. And the graph showed when I was there that I was hitting 26lbs we even tried 27 lbs. |
Something else must be wrong. I am on stock o2 housing and made 400/420 on Ivey's dynojet with basically the same mods as you.
Did you perform a compression/leak down test? |
Something's very fishy.... The stock O2 housing is restrictive, yes. But 50-70whp worth of restriction, no way... An O2 dump or a properly functioning O2 housing will yield in more power obviously...
I've seen a couple of E-Spec cars.. The hp numbers claimed didn't really match the races and track times these cars produced, so I was suspicious a bit... I'm not bashing E-Spec either don't get me wrong, I just don't think it's the best shop in that area... |

Did you perform a compression/leak down test? Also, Iveytune? I've heard of them. With our same mods, do you think I have a better shot to go to them? |

Can you please list all of your mods? I'd like to get this information.

Don't get depressed bro. Check over everything. Do you have a cable to log? Is the car driving ok (no cel's, misfires, etc)? Is it making boost like it was before (aka wastegate functioning properly)? The stock o2 housing is a restriction but you should see marginal power increase with the cam install. Did you make 7hp more on the e85 tune or pump gas?

literally the same mods lol. I don't think switching tuners will help as it is probably a mechanical issue. Erkel is a good tuner and I'm sure he is capable of extracting the power if the car wants to make it, but seems like it doesnt.
A big help would be to get some logs of the car so we can see exactly what is happening. |

good luck man, I hope you figure it out.
|
yes, get the logs and check it out. something is up. the stock O2 housing would not limit you that much. im on a 91 octane map making around that (dynojet) with mods on my sig. Oh, speaking of dynojet, what dyno is this on?
