What size cams should I run?

Hey guys, I'm starting my build on my '06 Evo IX. Going with a 2.0LR with a Garret GTX3582R turbo setup. I'm trying to find out what the best size cams are for me to run, it won't be a daily driver anymore but it will still be a street car to have fun with on the weekends. My first thought was GSC S3's but I'm hearing a lot that those are too big for a street setup, no power on the low end. Any advice guys?

gsc s2's do well on evo 9's. who is tuning your car?

the S2 is a good go-to cam. they seem to be the best all-around performer right now.

If head is not ported even if you put s3's it will not flow more.s2's or kelfords are most optimal.

S3's will still help with added duration..

More important is how much power do you want to make on what fuel?

And what are you willing to sacrifice (as far as power band)? Are you okay with swapping valvetrain parts?

I'm hoping for mid 500s to 600 on pump, still contemplating E-85 but not many places here to get it regularly

What parts on the valvetrain? I'm rebuilding the head as well, full port with GSC beehive springs and super tech valves

Check my signature. If the port job is even half-decent (and many are probably only that), and supporting hardware is well thought out, 500+ on 93 octane won't be a problem. Assuming this is a simple open T3 setup, you should be focused on a parts configuration that minimizes the loss of spool and transient response, both of which will be plenty evident enough as-is. As such, I do not recommend going overboard on cams.

You got it covered. {thumbup}

500-600 on pump is gonna lag quite a bit, especially with a 2.0L. Hopefully you don't like how the car drove before the rebuild. 😛

S2's have my vote

For pump gas, the S2's will meet your goals. If you were looking for all out kill mode power on E85, the S3's would be the way to go but they would give up some low end compared to the S2's.
