Throttle body shaft seal on evo vii

Hi guys bit of a problem today
Car started idling roughly but driving fine. I think it may be a vacuum leak as the boost gauge jumps about a little bit. So I pressurised the pipes using a pump and heard air leaking from the throttle body when I could move it slightly and moving it caused the pitch of the air leak to change. My questin is could this be also my idle problem.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

yes, and it could also be a dirty throttle body too.

How could a dirty throttle body cause a leak though?.

Evoryder Aug 15, 2016 07:20 AM

no, it would attribute to the rough idle.

Oh cool thanks. Any experience with the throttle body seals?.

Evoryder Aug 15, 2016 07:31 AM

yeah. change them and the leak goes away. Lube lightly and also check the biss screw and throttle position sensor(that sometimes leaks)

i got the Mil.Spec seals for mine

OK so I've spent hours removing throttle body, idle control valve, maf and piping for cleaning. My maf and throttle body and idle control valve were filthy but upon reassembly nothing had changed . Something I did notice was the idle control valve had play in it. I could move it with no resistance at all/ over and back, side to side, rotate(not fully) and push in and out. By 2 or 3mm play in all directions, is this normal? . Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this idle ( sounds like race cams, but still sits between 750/900rpm) and drives perfect and only really starts at idle when warmed up starts to hiccup I was thinking possibly o2 sensor but no codes are been thrown up. Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
