Wiseco Boostline rod for evo opinions?
Does anyone have more detailed info for evo application of this new Wiseco connecting rods? (Especially weight?)
http://www.enginelabs.com/features/p...ethink-design/ If it does have both advantages of H-beam and I-beam, it would be a good option. I saw one online vendor sells at $640, so not much cheaper than most I-beams. |
It's brand new. Like, came out 2 weeks ago. Not sure anyone will have too much info...
|
cool looking rod. but doubtful its really any better than whats been out for over a decade. I would run them if my engine block were clear. lol
|
Hahaha, clear engine block would be nice!
|
I just ordered some from realstreet... should be in this week hopefully. The only weird thing is that it seems like they do not offer a 625+ rod bolt upgrade... but I do not really plan on revving the car super high so I will be keeping my fingers crossed on the the ARP 2000's. Plus many engine builders used arp 2000's and set many records past any current expectations of my car.

any update?

I didn't like how the rods have a lot of non radiused edges
|
They are radiused where needed, on the inside corners.

I also thought I read this was not the case anyway and they are in fact made here. Let me see if I can find it as I was reading on a bunch of rods the other night trying to find the right choice for my build. Ugghh quite the daunting task honestly, I gave up for now. I am down to a decision on about 4 sets so that's a plus. Edit: Yup you're right, in the article posted it says tested and finished here. I'm sure they are actually made somewhere in Asia. Curious to know where my other options are made, don't honestly care anymore as long as they're rated to my HP goal |
I was told by Manley, pretty much ALL H-beams are made in Asia and finished here, including their own. Manley I beams are made in USA.

Wiseco have been know to be mid range components. Good for a budget build with mid rpm/power levels in mind. Normally plain Jane design. But this rod looks interesting. Hopefully it plays the part as much as it looks the part. As far as the bolts go, why not upgrade them yourself prior to putting it together. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of the cure.

lolwut? The Wiseco HD pistons are stout. Definitely not mid range components.
lulzbbq, so you are saying wiseco is the best!?! Number one pick!?! Or would you say if you had deeper pockets there isn't 2-3 or three brands that you would choose over wiseco? With about 6 relevant manufactures that would land the brand in the middle? |

I would choose Wiseco HD's, or the ER designed "Top Fuel" pistons, that are made by Wiseco if I was trying to get ridiculously into the 4 digit power range.

I would hardly call this a "mid-level" product in a "mid-level" car. Shelf Wiseco 1400HD's at almost 1100whp. They didn't rev it to 9500 on the dyno, but it routinely revved that high.

The rods look really good, I would use them. I would upgrade the bolts though.
do to have turned your thread into a back and forth. When the original topic was opinion on a set of rods. |

That Evo has a “Winberg” crank! That’s a big reason why it can rev so high!

Thoughts on the h tuff from manley? Seems like a slightly stronger(than standard h beam) budget option.

I like the map howard rods
if you get howard rods directly from howard they are like 500 bucks for the set https://www.summitracing.com/int/par...it-1/overview/ if you search around you can prob get even a better deal btw those weiseco rods remind me of extremetuner rods |
Sorry for bringing up this old thread but I finally have an update.
After getting some money built up I finally got the new rods and pistons into the motor. We ended up having to put a new crank and I had spun a bearing and the crank could not be saved. Car is a 2.0L setup on Cosworth M3's, Ferrea valve train, beehives, Wiseco 9.5 asymmetrical pistons, the Boostline Rods. running a FF BB PTE 6262 with full 3 in piping into a Boomba Throttle Body and AMS intake manifold and FIC 2150s. Backed up by a Haltech Elite 2000. Downfall is still stock 6 speed MR tranny and tcase. Only saving grace is I just rolled 26k on the odometer. Just finished my break in miles and the rods have not snapped :) so all in good. Oh and I still have A/C that blows ice cold... while driving lol the half radiator and half condenser with my tiny fan doesn't like in town driving with a.c if its too warm out. |
Wish these rods were lighter. The price isn't bad but there's plenty of equally stronger options that weigh significantly less :(
|
I’m glad you finally got it together. I started reading and saw no post from you in a while and thought you may have had to sell the car. |
