WTF happened?!?
I have a 03 Evo with only 4780 miles on it......and today, while i was leaving the gym, my car stalled while rolling down the ramp...IN NEUTRAL! there was never a problem like this before...i kept on trying to start my car up....but it didnt want to start....i know it aint the battery, because all my other electronics worked fine, and my windows were rolling up and down like usual.....when i tried to start the car, it kept on turning, but thats about it.....it felt like the fuel pump regulator went out....but after only 4780 miles?!? so i called the tow truck (which took 2 hours to come) and told them to tow it to my house (since it was 3 o'clock in the morning). And later on today i will tow it to Mitsubishi to see what the problem is... do you guys think this would be covered under warranty?...with all my mods done to this car? (look at sig) please help me out here...i will be greatly appreciated
thanks in advance |
Are you out of gas?
|
judging by the fact that some dealers are voiding warranties on stock cars, i'd say it wouldn't be covered.. If you want to battle it out and can force them to fix it then take them to court and fight the fact that those parts didn't cause your problem... scan the ecu make sure theres no codes, other things to do is check the fuel pump relay, and if it is the fuel pump (which i doubt) test that too...
|
the only mods that could bugger anything up are the intake and bov. but highly unlikely. if you are concerned about them voiding put the stock intake and bov back on prior to taking it there, or put the stock pieces on and try to start it. without internal engine or engine electronics i don't think they can void your warranty. all you have is bolt ons.

There are a number of wiring connections which could prevent the car from starting (the motor will turn over but not fire) if they come loose. As modified as your car is, I personally would take it to an independent shop for diagnosis -- perhaps the shop that did your installs?? |
i checked them....but didnt have good lighting....i will double check them in the morning
thanks |
And all the boost hoses are in working order? None are split, undone or otherwise working incorrectly?
Also, check the MAF plug and make sure it is fully connected. |
check the plug that connects to the MAF sensor. Mine would not start with this unpluged. it could have rattled out. Two main this that the engine needs to start 1: sparke 2: fuel. Take out one of your spark plug wires and ask someone to crank the car. Make sure to position the open wire close to a ground on the car. don't hold the wire while you are doing this. if you have spark, next think pull out all your spark plug wires and one spark plug and crank the motor a few times. if you see fuel coming out of the plug hole or smell fuel. then you have both. Something else is wrong. I hope this helps. peace......

Check the simple things first. Like an IC hose that popped off, or the plugs which might be fouled from gas where you may have flooded the engine with repeated attempts at start up. I'm sure its something small.

checked all the hoses.....its all good
MAF plug.....is all good |
The easiest thing at the moment is to pull the code off the ECU with an OBD-II scanner.. Its likely if you have a no-start condition that it has a code.. if you turn the ignition on, and not crank the car, the CEL light should go off if it doesnt, it has a code that might enlighten you..
It could be several things.. check the connector for the cam angle sensor too.. Its on the right front of the head and easy to bump into when working on the intake portion of the car... You could have a bad fuel pump, but its unlikely you'll be able to get much info until you pull a code if it got one. AFter you pull the code clear it, remove the battery cables and let the car sit.. then hook everything back up and try to start it.. If its a critical failure, the CEL light should come on immediately and register the same error.. |
Is the car turning over at all... if not could be the starter. good advice on removing the mods even if they have nothing to do with the problem. good luck.

damn....too bad i dont have a OBD-II scanner..... :(
