o2 Housing install...They Took a TORCH to my Car!! Ahhh

Well.. while putting in my o2 Housing. The guys at the shop.. Mind you really smart guys .. they had a bunch of 700hp Supra's. a 686hp Lexus IS 300.. etc.. Dynos out the ***. When the Supra hit NOS it was a car orgasm.. unbeliveable!!.. Anyway.. my bolts on my o2housing were IMPOSSIBLE to get off. Cheap metal that mitsu and toyota makes.. always cracking manifold bolts off and ****.. Well they basically couldnt get the one hardest bolt off.. they wanted to take off my turbo.. i said forget it.. keep trying. So finally.. the bolt Strips.. AHHHHHH.. the asian guy says "We try more.. but maybe it break. then it leak and u goto mitsu.. very expensive.." i said.."Do it"..in my Starsky and Hutch voice.. So whats he do next.. Lights a torch... goes under my car.. and smoke starts rising out of my hood.. I turn away not to look and cry.... He gets the bolt off after heating it up.. he says in his asian voice "u lucky boy..i think it break..everything OK" as i hear the supra in the backround screaming bloody hell on the dyno.. Eveything goes on.. fine after that..no leaks.. im happy.. almost shat my pants..

Torches aren't bad until you start using the oxygen to cut. Otherwise all they do is get stuff hot. The smoke you saw was the acetlyne (sp?) it's very black and whispy.

How long would you say the O2 install took without counting the time it took to get the bolt torched off?

Since Mitsu doesn't put any high-temp anti-sieze on the bolts when they assemble the turbo/exh man/o2 housing, those things are a b*tch to get off sometimes. I usually spray penetrating lube on all the bolts, let it sit for about 1/2-1 hr, then try cracking them loose w/ a breaker bar. And make sure you use 6-point sockets!! 12-pt sockets suck in situations like this. If I still can't crack it off, then I'll bust out the torch.

Id say the o2.. took like 30min.. if all the bolts came off it would have been a lot less.. That one bolt.. REALLY is a ***** to get off.. The guy had some rotary tool.. where he turned it...and it turned a handle.. and the end turned at a 90degree angle.. Screw the swivel wrench.. Goto a shop.. it TRUELY is a paaaain

Why didn't you just take off the headers and turbo to get to the O2 housing?

o2 Housing, i think helped my turbo spool up a bit.. Im not really sure since i did the exaust at the same time.. But im happy with it.. and would suggest it. Had i taken off the header and turbo.. i would have been sure to crack a bunch of bolts.. went the hard way.. but was successful..
