no, I installed a K&N air filter to my car when it was stock, before I got the intake and other mods and I did not notice any difference

You get better throttle response with a aftermarket filter and it does provide some gains proven on a dyno.

it will provide very minimal gains and throttle response..but it does give u a little..sometimes however without getting tuned ur MAF will be off so it might make ur car run worse until tuned..sounds better tho lol

I defenatly felt power gains with the HKS RS intake, I don't know about just a drop-in filter tho. I've heard you get about 5WHP-7WHP from the drop-in.

You won't notice a difference with a drop in unless the one you are replacing was very dirty.

Switching back and forth between K&N drop in and stock I noticed better response and high end performance (above 5000rpm). No gain down low.

You ain't getting no 5-7whp from a drop in. 1-2whp at best with drop in.

I'd agree with most posts. Very little (if any) overall performance gain without a tune. Sound is great though, mine stays.

If you plan on keeping the stock intake it's a good addition (notice I didn't use the word mod), hp will be gained 2-5 hp , but this small amount will not be noticeable. Sonce KN filters can be washed and last seemly forever, over a period of enough time you could saev money over replacing filters, although the cleaning kits cost a few bucks.

A proper tune is a must with any aftermarket intake. When I first installed the A'PEXi power intake, there was only a marginal power gain on the top end. The low end torque seemed to have suffered, causing the car to bog more frequently around town. After a tune (and a turbo back), the engine now responds much more willingly, and the power increase is nothing less than significant!

Check with dynoflash. It was done last year October at a dyno day. The dyno showed a gain of 5 to 7 WHP on back to back runs with just a K & N. In fact, the cone style filters show almost the same gains as a panel filter when tuned.

The stock box is able to handle well over 300 WHP with a good free flowing filter. The stock filter is very restrictive compared to a HKS or Ralliart drop in. Even WORKS is ready to put out a drop in.
