Getting ready for pulling the trigger on an EVO

Hi everyone,

I've been reading, searching and doing even more reading on the EVO pricing and it's just driving me nuts. Has anyone in So Cal got their EVO at a reasonable price? I hear great prices near invoice and hear ridiculous prices that have markups as high as $20K. I need a possible contact at a nearby dealer to finalize the deal.

Since we are on the subject of finalizing, what do I do ... 04' EVO RS (with something called Urben jungle package ... power everything), 04' EVO or wait for the 05' EVO. I understand that the 05' EVO comes with ACD ... is this worth the wait or is it another thing to worry about breaking? The car is going to go through major mods after the break-in period and the EVO will visit the nearby drag strip on a bi-weekly basis and probably the track 1-2 a month.

Any suggestions? Should I even be looking at moderately used 04' EVOs. After all, I don't think the warranty will apply after a few months anyways.

Thanks in advance for all your recommendations,

Arbi

Did you by any chance get the your EVO from Huntington ... and if so, what did you pay for it (what options) .... and lastly, who was your salesperson?

Thanks,

I went for an '04 Evo cause I got a good deal on mine. I needed a car quick and I'm happy now, instead of waiting for another year, before I can get a good deal on an '05. Not sure about your area but if you work for the big 3(chrysler, GM, Ford) you can get a discount through Mitsubishi. A photocopier and my dad's work ID got me into a brand new(11miles on the odometer) WW 04 Evo GSR (no sun package) for $29,200 OTD(tax, title, etc.). I'm sure others probably have gotten a better deal, but I was happy when they told me they would go $29,700 OTD, before the "big 3" discount. Good luck!!

Don't let anybody sell you an "'04 Evo RS" that has power windows. The mythical urban jungle package was dropped before the cars were ever built. Every US market RS comes with A/C, none come with power locks, windows, or mirrors.

There are a number of other cosmetic ways you can tell if the car is an RS besides power accessories.

Center Dash console: RS is black, GSR is silver.

E-Brake handle: RS is one-piece cheap-o plastic, GSR is two pieces, slightly less cheapo.

Trunk: RS has no interior trim but does have a greyish brace at the rear end of the spare tire well.

if you're gonna mod the hell out of it, you're gonna void the warranty anyway so my suggestion is get an 04 RS and use the money you'll save for your Mods.
