Fix It Ticket Help!

ok I just got a nice little speeding ticket, but just to be a pain in the *** the cop decided to write me a fix it ticket for not having a front plate and stating that my exhaust is too loud. I am running a GReddy Ti with an apexi downpipe so I'm willing to bet its not legal but how do I get around this? Could I just put in the silencer and then have it tested so that it meets the DB requirments? Or do I have to try and dig up a stock exhaust and put it back on? I'm sure lots of u have had the same experiance with cops and fix it tickets and I am looking for any advice u guys got on whut to do and what not to do.
Thanks

You'll pass the DB requirement with that exhaust system. For the front plate, you have to pay that, since you live in CT. That and the speeding ticket.

But you should be able to fight the exhaust ticket. Check out SEMA site. They have some articles on protecting yourself against cops with your aftermarket products.

and I'm sure the cop didn't measure the DB on the exhaust with a device when he gave you the ticket.

I'm surprised you didn't just keep your stock exhaust. But since you don't have it readily available, and you're pretty sure you're over dB limits, I'd recommend taking the car to a friendly shop that does inspections, and have them sign off on it. Ask around your area, someone is bound to know someone. If you have a silencer, most definitely try that, first.

I would just put in the silencer, and have the ticket signed off by the local PD (If the exhaust is quiet enough). If it's not quiet enough you might have to put the stock one back on.

I don't think you have to go to the state ref or anything for a fix-it ticket, which is good.

You have to remember also that even though you get the exhaust system written off, they can still ticket you later because if they are really d*cks they can easily say, "how do I know that this is the same exhaust system that was tested? You could have easily replaced it with another one."

The cop didn't use a meter at all to determine if my exhaust was legal, he simply stood behind the car and then stated that even at idle it was too lound...........yea I think he had to make a donut run or something, I figured I would have to pay for the plate.....its still not going back on though cause it just looks bad, but I am deffinatly gonna try a tuner friendly shop first......whut do they do just rev it and check with a decible meter?
if so how high are they supposed to rev it?

check on your state laws on aftermarket exhausts. check on sema as well & find your carb number. if its under the db they truely cant complain. we are not as loud as some of the harley owners

I havnt had a problem with my APS exaust YET but my wife recieved a fixit ticket on her Civic. I just bought a silencer and stuffed it in the back to get the ticket signed off. One screw holds it in so taking it off again took about 15 seconds.

I have paid for no front plate tickets four times. You drive an evo with no front plate it was bound to happen.

I would get the front plate and put the silencer in. Take it to a cop to get it signed off and tell him you did not have the silencer in when you were stopped. That should work because it shows you took the corrective steps to make your exhaust less loud.

Check the Connecticut General Statutes and search on the section he cited you for. From my recollection CT now has a law which makes it illegal to make ANY modifications to your exhuast system which make the car ANY louder than stock or some such BS

My advice - plead NOT GUILTY - go to court and speak with the State's Attorney when you get a court date - they will prob drop the charges

In any event there are no points if you just mail it - read the back of the summons closely

Al thanks for the advice as I know its comming from somone who knows what their talking about. I never got a summons for my fixit ticket. Instead he gave me a little red paper that just states what was wrong with the car and then gives a spot on the back to have it signed off on. I found it strangle because their is also no mention of any fine on it for anything other than failing to have it signed off on and sent back in. My speeding ticket wasn't even a summons I don't belive as I've gotton one of those before for a much higher speeding ticket and had to go take care of it in court, this ticket only gives information on how to pay it on the back and if u want to plead not guilty to it you have to check a box and send it back in or something to that nature. I am obviously guilty of the speeding as he claims he had me on radar so theirs no point in fighting it as its only a $150 fine and no points, but I am not gonna take my exhaust off cause one cop decides he got a thing against modified cars, I am looking for ways to beat it.
someone explain to me how the hell harley riders can run around all day with wide open headers for exhaust making enough noise to wake the dead and never have a word said to them but the instant that a cop sees an aftermarket exhaust on an import its immediatly illegal? lol thats fair!
