Question used evo problems! WARRENTY?

ok i just bought a used WW 04 evo with 4000 miles on the clock. ive had it for 6 days and i started to notice a weired sound i think is coming from the tranny (i think). when ever i hit around 3000 rpms in third gear and just let the car coast to around 2000 to 1500 rps it sounds like some thing is rattling. the sound isnt loud from inside but if i pay attention i can hear it. i dont know if its the clutch or tranny but i think i should take it back and get it checked?

i also noticed that when the car is warmed up the rpms will play around but its self. the rpms will start at 900 rpms and then raise to 1200 and sit there for 5-10 seconds and then even back out at 900-800 rpms. i want to know if any one else has seen this?

im getting ready to take this car back to the dealer ship i bought it from but do you guys think ill get any **** over it? and so do you think this stuff might be covered over my 3 year 36000 mile bumper to bumper or the 7 year power train warrenty. im just trying to see what would be the best route to take. i havent even put 400 miles on it and im just trying to make sure my car last me. thanks for your time.

other than that i love this damn car!

Tranny noises seem to be pretty common in Evo's. I noticed in mine the car seems to like being engaged and drives a lot better if I keep on the gas and don't let it coast much. It comes stock pretty high tuned and like most high tuned cars its set up to be driven enthusiastically. The Evo isn't the best commuter car around at all and at low speeds (0-20mph) its pretty jerky and rough. Its just set up to drive like you mean it. I don't think the issues you noticed are out of the ordinary at all.

did you buy it from a dealership? Maybe you should investigate the rattling. The tranny can be a little noisy though. The rpm issues sounds a bit common durng cold start up.

Pretty normal sound

Alot of evo's make sounds at low rpm's thats pretty normal I think its caused by a vibration from the tranny. Which in most cases is pretty normal. My friends 04 RS sounds like it has gear whine at low speeds sometimes but did not really effect driving that much just heard it when coasting in gear most of the time. So I think your findings are pretty normal. As for rpm's that studder or rise and fall thats pretty normal and should stablize after the car is fully warmed up. REMEMBER THE EVO IS A HIGHLY TUNED VEHICLE SO DON"T EXPECT A LUXURY RIDE WITH NO NOISES.

Derek

Hope that helps you out

Do a search for this as it has been covered many many times. My car sounds like it has a big metal container filled with marbles where the tranny is and every time I let off the gas in gear it rattles like crazy. It should go away if you put the clutch in. I have yet to hear of a single person fixing this noise and the dealership will point you to a Mitsubishi bulleting that describes the noise as 'normal.'

Stupid question: Is the A/C on?

The noise will be dismissed as normal and it is. It might be worthwhile for the idle problem.

i think this engine rev-up is pretty normal. it should only be doing this when your engine has just been turned on. the revving should just be the engine trying to warm it up a bit. i have an integra and when i start my engine, it idles up to 1600 rpm. but after like 2 or 3 mins, it goes back down to 900 rpm. if your car is still idling really high when your engine is alrdy warmed up. (like after just coming from a 10 - 15 min drive or longer) then iono what is wrong with it. i think this high idling is normal when your car has started cold. my bro has an rsx and it does the same thing. so dont worry at all about this situation. the way i see it, if your engine is not revving at 900 rpm, where its supposed to be, then i cant floor it cuz the engine and oil is still too cold. hope this helped.

Normal.

I enjoy the strange noises. I especially enjoy the clank noise when you let off the gas and re apply the gas. Sounds like a heavy duty tranny is grabbin well.

Evo Noises

I've had my new RS for about a month now and it is real noisy. I think alot of it comes from the transfer case. Coasting in gear is pretty noisy also and how about that slow speed brake squeal? I am still learning to drive in a way to minimize the cars bad traits. Definitely quieter when not coasting. Also speed bumps in low gears are a *****. I would investigate the idle problem though.
