Looking into buying an '03 EVO8, what should I look out for?
Looking into buying an '03 EVO8, what should I look out for?
I currently own an RSX-S. I have always wanted to trade my RSX in for an EVO, and I have been desperately saving up for that day ever since I took my RSX off the lot. This morning while bored at work, I came across a White EVO8 GSR with 18k miles for 24,995. I called the dealer, he said it was bone stock, older guy traded it in for a pickup truck (04 Chevy Silverado).
So, I am seriously going to consider this. Its a good deal and I could take him down a couple grand more, maybe. So, because of this, I need help.
When I go to check this thing out, what should I look for? Any common warnings or problems to be aware of? Anything I can test and ask about? Any idea how much I could talk this guy down?
Any input would be appreciated

1. get the vin# and call a local mitsu dealer to get a history report on it(make sure the warranty is still good).
2. drive it to see if the clutch is still good
3. take it to a mitsu mechanic for a thorough check-up
4. 24,000+ is too much for an 03 GSR with 18000. You could probably talk him down to mid 22,000.

Yeah it has no mods... how is financing with Mitsubishi? I am a student but I paid for my RSX-S in cash. I have SOME credit but not a lot. Do I have a chance in hell of getting financing with these guys?
For pricing, take a look at private for-sale section. 25k does seem high.
If you haven't seen it from reading the board already, the thing that should worry you the most is the clutch. Otherwise, do like twinevo says and get a history on the vehicle.

Most of all carefully drive the car, make sure it hasnt been beaten into the ground. Dealer said it was an older guy who traded it in, yeah right, could of been but i doubt it. Guess that depend what he considers older!!!
I drove one, the first thing I noticed was the right rim had been curbed, no big deal i have done that going thru a Drive thru at wendy (dumbest thing), I noticed it pulled to one side when I drove it, guess which side (the right). I noticed the paint did not match up real good and the inside wheel well screws looked like they had been taken off and a couple were missing. the whole bumber was misaligned. this was at a major dealership too.
The sales manager actually tried to tell me it hadnt been wrecked, swore up and down. LIAR!! Just be careful!!

dealer always say the last owner is older man or woman to give the buyer a good impression on the car......you know what is the age group like to buy an EVO, so it is up to you to believe him unless he show you some prove.
anyway.....as many said already.....drive the car and feel the clutch to see if it still in good shape, check with
to see the car's history, a compression test on the motor will be a good idea too.
as for the loan...you dont need to go thru
. If you own your DC5 and plan to trade it in I don't think you will have problem with the financing.
One of the best way to find out your finacing rate is to go to:
www.lendingtree.com
Input your info and the $$ you need.....you will receive few (actual)offer from different bank, use the lowest one to bargin with the dealership, they usually will either beat or "match" that cuz they don't want to lost their commission.
in case they don't want to give you a good APR...just accept that offer and do the finance by yourself.
good luck
