Driveing thru a puddle sound like exaust dissapears
ok its been raining here on and off for the past few days.. iv been thru puddles yesterday no issue
today comeing to work i hit a puddle and it sounds like my exaust fell off totaly ( not draging on the ground just missing ) from the normal stock exaust to nothing being their
i pull over in the pouring rain get out look to see if any thing is haning or lose im not going to grab the muffler / exaust pipe but every thing looks to be in place and nothing haning..
in the time i pull over get out of the car get under the car in the pouring rain look to see if any thing is broke to get back into my car rev the engin once its sounding like normal again.
bout month or two ago i had removed a resonator and have had no isssues with it.. and i only took from the cat back off to do the resonator removal and put a straight pipe in its place
any ideals? why
happend to me 3 times on the way to work each time after hitting a puddle and few moments 30 - 60 seconds later it goes back to normal
any guesses?

ok well i got home to night backed up on ramps started checking all of the exaust couldnt find any thing. looked even closer possably found a slight leak in one of my welds i cleaned it up. re welded that spot dont think that was my issue but the only thing i could find nothing cracked just looked likei didnt weld
but i dont think how loud it became could come from smaller then pin hole holes'
guess next time i drive thru a puddl ill find out..
wish me luck.

I had the same thing happen to me this summer with my aftermarket exhaust. And just a few days ago it got loud again and will not stop. I brought it to an exhaust shop and they could not find any leaks. I then brought it to the dealer and they said that everything looked fine. I also called the exhaust shop back and they said that it may be a bad muffler can. I called the manufacture and they were willing to RMA it but I have to send it in first. It is still really loud and I am not sure what to do.
was it just sometimes when u went thru a puddle or is it all the time? if its all the time most likely an exaust leak
mine i think i narrowed it down to where i took the resionator out welded a straight pipe into its place and when it was heated up and hit a puddle t broke the weld and got loud till it heated backup and sealed it self.. right now i nabbed blackevovii old exaust pipe to try to narrow it down but its been so cold here in jersey there has been no rain so i dont have puddles to drive thru to test
if you drive for a day or 2 with it loud get undre the car it self and try to see if you can see any exaust leaks normaly black soot (sp) where the leak is at. if it is try to see if you can tighten bolts or get a new gasket.
also when ur in ur car can you tell where the sound is comeing from front middle or back end of the car?

I had it in the shop today. We lifted it and had it running. No leaks but still loud. I happened when I was backing up in deep snow. I was thinking that water got into the can and ruined it.
it happens, because your exhaust have silencer foam in it, it probably got wet. That and if you got water in your muffer it wont vibrate as much. it'll get mumured.
I've never had this happen but heard it happened before

maybe the water gets into the muffler, and wets down the packing material and makes it resonate louder. Once the water dries out from the exhaust gases, the packing material goes back to somewhat normal and sounds regular again?
not too sure on this one, but it could be something like that.

I know this sounds stupid being that I am sure you know what you are talking about. Are you sure it is your exhaust? I started a thread on here way back about a horrible sound coming from the T-case area after going through standing water. A lot of guys on here were experiencing the same thing. I mean it sounds like the t-case was exploding right then and there, after a few mins it would go away. Do you have your undertray on? Also if it is your exhaust try reassembling it with the "right stuff" I believe that is what it is called. It is in a black can and can be bought at pep boys, I have used this high temp gasket maker on my car, and a friends car with no problems at all. I know a few of the shops on here swear by it. Good luck buddy.

i still got my under tray on. and im 99%sure it was the exaust on my car. because of where the sound was comeing from if i had the clutch in and the car in nutral it had the exaust sound and because of the modification i did to the cat back pipe, i have a stock pipe back on and just tryn to find a nother puddle i had a small one and t didnt do it so hopefully it was just about me
