Keep in mind the HKS stand alone ecu has no knock control so it must be left on the safe side

Also - HKS is super conservative with their whp rating on parts - I think they shoot for numbers which no one will make less than - to avoid complaints

Its obvious that the kit can make 400 whp on 93 octane and 21 psi

BUT - its also obvious that AMS makes a much better kit for less money

The HKS stuff is good for people who MUST have JDM

I used to be a big HKS fan but now there is NOT ONE HKS part on my car
Yep I would agree.

the turbo is rated at 430bhp at 2.0L from HKS. 400whp with cams and supporting mods on pump gas is relistic.

if you read closely it says:

"The HKS GT2835 Full Turbo Upgrade Kit and R-Type Intercooler Kit combined with HKS 272° Intake and Exhaust Camshafts, Carbon Ti-Exhaust, 680cc Injectors, Racing Suction Intake, EVC, Racing Catalyzer and tuned with the HKS F-Con VPRO produced 330.4 HP and 285.4lbs Torque with boost set to 1.24Bar (18 PSI). The GT2835’s ball-bearing center-cartridge and 0.73 A/R turbine housing allows boost to build quickly for exceptional response; while the 56 trim compressor wheel offers superb power potential for the Evolution’s 4G63 power plant."

tuned at less than stock boost (19psi), as Al said, its a conservative tune.

Hks Kit

I hear what everyone is saying and I don't know about you guys/gals but for me my $$$ is hard earned. I would rather go with David Buschur's stuff and have Al tune/flash my evo. With Buschur's staged set up and Al's tuning they make it very hard for companies to compete for the performance verse dollar issue. Plus all of their parts are top quality. I do love the way the HKS stuff looks but way too much $$$ for me I will sacrifice bling factor for good quality performance at a very reasonable price.

Sorry to ramble but thats just my .02 cents

Derek

Let's say it made another 30-40 hp with an aggressive tune. Still why would you when you can get Buschur stage 3 that makes 360atw with standard turbo. And i'm guessing you'd sacrifice some low response with HKS kit.

The GT28 turbo is a great turbo especially for our little engines. It has great response even better than stock. It will spool better than stock with all supporting mods (I would say full boost by 2700~2800RPM) and it will hold power more than stock. I can say 25~30WHP on top of stock. Its a great track turbo (not QM track) and nothing will beat it. No member here has the GT28 on their EVOS because we always look for 350WHP and above but I am sure that the GT28 will make one fun car to drive.

I am sure he has something bigger now. I mean he cant push the 600WHP on that small intake. I am sure he has something custom made for him. The HKS RS is good for us 350~ whp. However, anything over the 500WHP needs to be custom made.

Are you sure it can spool faster than stock turbo (considering both have same supporting mods)?

well, I am %99.5 sure.

No one has tried yet but I am sure it will spool so much faster. I have seen the GT28 on the 1.8GTIs and it does spool extremely fast on these cars..

That turbo is pretty small. It's ballbearing, but still...

But that R-Type Intercooler is delicious.

The goat horn type exhaust manifold is nice too, the buschur's and that's fairely similar.

I'm sure the MSRP's going to go way down in a while, if people don't start buying them.

[QUOTE=bo0oost]Didn't you swear up and down that the HKS Intake was the ****?QUOTE]

If I remember correctly he very much did swear up/down on the HKS intake which he later blammed for everything. Funny.

Moving on...

I'm sure you can choose a different turbo as well with the HKS kit but it still is a extreme amount for the cost. They really need to review their marketing tactics.

Both of those kits do NOT come with a I.C. one is designed for the stock I.C. the other for the HKS I.C. They are expensive as hell but notice you can get the GT3037S kit for the same $$ that is weird also. If you look around the kits now sell for around 5K on the internet.

really, you could conjure that kit up with different parts for less than $2500 - the IC. ($1500)

The IC will fit without cutting anything on the evo, which is great, and it looks fantastic.
