Clutch frying :(

I think you are right on that one probably in 3rd gear slow roll not enough speed to keep car from stalling. So he kept the clutch partially engaged.

LOL

What a moron.

Ummmmmmmm...maybe you are not taking into consideration something important about a clutch that would easily allow this to happen. A clutch disk is made of similar material to brake pads. The disk material needs a few heating/cooling cycles to cure the adhesives that hold the material together. Also, when a flywheel has a fresh surface on it, it is very abrasive. The disk and flywheel surfaces need time to burnish and get a somewhat smooth surfaces. So...what I think happened here was, you had an abrasive flywheel ripping up an un-cured grippy clutch disk, shredding the material from trying to drive in stop & go traffic in 3rd gear. It's not unthinkable...STUPID but not unthinkable.

I think the driver speed shifted and dropped the clutch with the transmission halfway in gear. Thats when the clutch became the buffer between the engine and a jammed gear, shearing the facing completely off the disc. That transaxle will never be the same.

Apparently...you might be behind a firewall that is blocking that IP or something. Here they are:

No, it's not a carbon fiber clutch.

Those black thin strands are the clutch friction material.

How the hell??? What did this guy say to the new dealer when he brought in a smoking clutch?

"Sorry" doesn't pay the bills.

Well it happend

I'm not going to put exact details.

Mostly I'm posting this to let people understand what happens when you do not drive this car right. In this particular case the person didn't know how to drive stick shift. But a lease you guys can see first hand what happens to your clutch when it starts slipping. This can also happen when you guys launch your car, ride the clutch, or do any number of foolish driving stunts in your Evo.

#1 If you don't know how the drive a 5-speed, I suggest you start out with a Lancer OZ Ralli. Then work your way up to an Evo. I've met many customers that have over 35,000 mile on stock clutch, and it still performs strong.
