I think you are right on that one probably in 3rd gear slow roll not enough speed to keep car from stalling. So he kept the clutch partially engaged.
LOL
What a moron.

I think the driver speed shifted and dropped the clutch with the transmission halfway in gear. Thats when the clutch became the buffer between the engine and a jammed gear, shearing the facing completely off the disc. That transaxle will never be the same.

The clutch disk is made out of organic carbon "fibers" for lack of a better word.
No, it's not a carbon fiber clutch.
Those black thin strands are the clutch friction material.

Well it happend
I'm not going to put exact details.
Mostly I'm posting this to let people understand what happens when you do not drive this car right. In this particular case the person didn't know how to drive stick shift. But a lease you guys can see first hand what happens to your clutch when it starts slipping. This can also happen when you guys launch your car, ride the clutch, or do any number of foolish driving stunts in your Evo.
#1 If you don't know how the drive a 5-speed, I suggest you start out with a Lancer OZ Ralli. Then work your way up to an Evo. I've met many customers that have over 35,000 mile on stock clutch, and it still performs strong.
