Evo magazine has has there car of the year test video. It doesn't reveal the winner but has some great video footage of all the cars.
Go to the site above and click on play video has some great test footage of the MR FQ340 and WRX type 25(never heard of that one)

 

If I remember correctly, the type 25 STI had a USDM 2.5 liter motor in it, and spec C suspension. There may have been one or two other differences but that was the gist of it.
