Whats better between these two types?

Im planning on removing the stock airbox and get a cone filter BUT not the turbo inlet yet because i might lose power due to the MAF readings. So is it better to get an oiled based cone filter or a dry cone filter/sponge type? i heard the oiled ones can give you problems because it could go to the turbo? i think this is B.S but anyway what do u guys think? buschur says a cone filter should give you 4whp.

From: airborne
oiled ones "should" collect more particulates than a dry ones just because the oil grabs and
hangs on to the dirt.

far as oil getting into the turbo, the stock turbo setup dumps the breather hose from the valve
cover into the intake tube between the maf and turbo. when i swapped to my buschur intake
the stock hose had a bunch of oil in it so i don't see how a little oil from the filter is going to
drop more oil into the turbo than a contant feed from the block

The only problems I've heard of with oiled filters (and this is from the Subaru world) is that if you over oil them you can get an oily film over the MAF. If oiled correctly an oiled cone filter shouldn't give you any more problems than a non-oiled one would.

Hi,

I have a K&N drop-in. In my A4 I had a problem with an overoiled K&N (from the factory) ruining the MAF. The A4 is the hotwire type, which is more susceptible to this problem. The Karmann MAF in the EVO is not as susceptible.

When I installed my K&N in my EVO, I cleaned the MAF area and the MAF tube, which as stated will be coated in oil. I will do it again this weekend and install a catch can as well.

Take care,
