Preparing car for the winter. What should I do?
Winters coming along, but this is my only means of transportation to work and everywhere. I already have all season tires, car is lowered and front splitter could pose a problem if snow builds up to high right? i could take it off, but I dont have the stock undertray anymore. But even if i removed the splitter still won't make much difference, the car is going to be low regardless.
How and should I prep the engine for winter? Should I change oil? coolant? windshield fluid? what. In winter do I still have to let hte turbo timer cool the car down?
Any advice from Evo owner who've driven in the snow before? How is the handlin, should I add bags of sand in the back seat and truck to get more traction? Tire pressure? Thanks.

i just got all seasons. i'll change the oil when its time too...soon 1000 more miles. coolant i'll do after winter. windshield fluid should be the real stuff not water. My turbo timers set to 30seconds.
i have nothing in the trunk.
im gonna go 32 psi in the F/R so snow doesn't get trapped in the treads. Just be ez on the accelerator.
oh yeah i wished i had a block heater....it takes like 10minutes to warm up the car.

the turbo timer's main job (as i understand it) is to keep oil circulating to the turbo while it spools down. that's the process known as "cooling down" - so the oil not only helps keep the turbo cool literally, but it also helps keep it greased while it spins down. so, cold outside or not it should still run for as long as normal to keep everything spinning smooth.
If you have all-seasons, traction might not be as good as expected in the snow (as far as the tires are concerned). As for sand bags, no, not needed at all, the EVO is not a pick-up (good thing too). Also, you may want to drain your intercooler sprayer resivoir if it is filled with water, just in case of cracking the lines or resivoir. Remember, have fun in the snowy days but be careful!
I drove mine last Monday in snow for the first time. I have all seasons tires at about half life and my car didn't do that good. ABS was kicking in alot and when I was going around a corner on a bridge the cars rearend kept trying to come around. I mean the weather was pretty bad. But when I got home I took my wifes Prizm out and felt alot better driving it (for traction stopping whole thing). I blame the tires mainly for my problems. I would consider getting some snow tires if you get alot of snow where you live.
