The other perk of not having a sunroof is that you gain a lot of head room! Helmet anyone?

BTW -- I hade to order my car without the sunroof. I would still like a lighter roof though

uhm... if you get this aftermarket job done i don't think you're gonna gain any head room unless it's from a lack of interior upholstering. i'm pretty damn sure they don't put that kinda stuff back in for you cuz it's a new roof...

keep in mind agian, this is only an 85 pound diff if you have a sunroof... if not... 15 or so am i right robi?

from what i understood about the mr roof that comes on the mr is that the roof stuff doesn't change... it's the piece of sheetmetal that keeps the rain out that is changed. which doesn't save you that much unless you have a sunroof! now i'd love to do this but... shewt... too much money :\ and i already don't have a sunroof...

Took two days stock mitsu part # (thank you MR) retail about $750.00 need to remove the front and rear glass most shops should do this for about $2500.00 (includes new headliner w/cubby) your windshield might break though during the removal process which would add to the cost.

MR roof is 20 lbs lighter than a stock NON-sunroof car

So it sounds like a far more cost effective means of at least getting in the ballpark in terms of weight would be to keep the steel roof, gut the sunroof parts and fill the roof opening.

How is the aluminum roof attached to the body? Glued?

How much lighter would a CF roof be compared to an aluminum roof?

It's probably not lighter at all, depending on the thickness of each, of course. However, the CF is more dent resistant...that just means it will crack instead, but that should take a lot more damage before it happens.

The question would be, how well will the CF hold up when exposed to the elements (sun, cold) and how well will it be sealed (around the edges) so you don't end up with any leaks.

The sunroof panel is 15 lbs heavier (due to reinforcements and bits to mount the sunroof/motors mouldings drains etc) than the stock steel roof panel (about 480.00 for comparison) add any sealing panel to that...If you want to ditch the sunroof do it right. (I have yet to see a decent insert) jmho
