Thinking of making the switch...

I currently have an s2000 as my daily driver, but with two kids and life getting more complicated I am considering a new car. It is getting tough to coordinate who drives what car to make sure that the kids get where they need to be. I laove my S and hate to give it up, but three cars is just not practical.

Are there any quality issues that exist with the Evo? How about issues that have existed for a long time that Mitsu has not taken care of? I don't want to be in the same boat as many 350z owners...Nissan still can't get the tire feathering issue worked out?
Any model Evo significantly better than the others?
What do you all know about issues that exist with the Sti? My brother keeps telling me to get the Sti instead ! (He has one). I just can't stand the bird catching hood scoop, but it is also on my short list of considerations as well as the G35c.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have both the sti and evo for a year now and am more happy with the evo. Especially coming from a s2000 you want a car that will be responsive and give you that exhilirating feeling at high rpm. I have not experienced any quality problems with either car but I also do not beat on car that much except for revving the engine once awhile. My impression is that evo is a very well builit product and as long as you exercise common sense (not dropping clutch at 6 k rpm and race it all the time) you should be fine. Mitsu does have a bad reputation but the evo IS the exception in terms of quality and engineering. I would pick up a regular evo (not MR or RS) and just put a nice exhaust on it. This alone will free up alot of power. Don't mess with other things until you get a good feel for the car and what you want to do with it. The evo will outperform the s2000 in every category plus it will haul 5 people and your grocery in a nice sized trunk. I love it.

On the sti, the only things I like about it are the fact that Subaru is somewhat better in customer service and it has more torque due to the larger displacement. It does not feel as nimble as the evo.

The suspensions are stiff on both cars and don't expect any luxuries to come with it. These cars are built for one purpose: hauling ***.

Hope this helps.

Its funny you mention the 350Z and the problems their owners are having. I previously had one and it was nothing but problems, to include the tire feathering issue where they simply swapped tires from left to right and called it a day.

So anyway, its funny that you mentioned their problems. I can tell you that I havent had any issues with my evo. Ive driven a little over 7000 miles without incident and that is with several aftermarket mods. All in all it appears to be a decently built car. It is definately not Honda reliable but its a hell of a lot better than the piece of crap Nissan I had.

Just my .02. Good luck with your decision.<img>

I have two girls and they love riding in my Evo. I think '05 Evo in general are an improvement over '03s and '04s. For family use the MR make good sense in that it has a very M3 like ride that the other models do not have. The Evo has a larger interior also.

The Evo is more mod friendly than the STI also.
