Looks like a nice weight saving mod. How many cold cranking amps do you need? How long will these batteries last?

This is what I have and works great. Been in the car for almost 2 years. Even in below zero weather in Colorado the car started with no problems. I recently relocated the battery to the trunk and you would think the long POS cable would cause some problems with startup, no problems whatsoever.

Check mine out. I used my Honda Civic battery on mine and it worked great. Starts everytime, even in -35+ degrees. The Honda battery from the Dealer runs about 90 bucks or so. Now you can buy an autolite battery from Checker for 50.00. If you're creative, buy the battery for 50.00 and the tray and mounting bracket 10.00 weld together using angle iron from Home depot or Menards for a total of 60.00 I have my batter for over a year and a half and no problems so far.

Forget the tray. Put the battery in the trunk. Free up space under the hood for maybe an oil-catch can.

Sleet, sorry thought I posted a reply to the tray question, I made it out of some .032" sheet aluminum from Lowes and an adjustable battery hold-down part number 01343 from Autozone.
