I'm also curious about what VP is. Glad at least one Mobil station here offers 101 octane...
I've only filled up once since I got the car and I used Cobblestone '91.

how come the additives in chevron and texaco make the car run worse .i am asking that cause i have been using chevron since day one but in the last 2 fills i used different chevron then the one i go to and my car is not running like it used to

This is the kind of feedback we need more of. Actual datalogging, not just guestimates. Instrumenting (what is reported advance from stock ecu, knock counts, etc.) shoud help this one.

Otherwise my B dyno likes Chevron or Arco here in San Diego. 4 Gal of 100 oct with 8 gal of Chevron 91 is good and fun on the stock ECU program. I also get better mpg (240 till light goes - hammer the whole way) on that tank vs. normal 91 (180-220 miles).

no 76 on poll so i voted shell- 2nd choice, i like to use 76 100 octane- 3 galons, mixed w/ the balance of 92 octane, or if i have to use shell, i mix in about a little more than half a gallon of toluene.

VP makes race gas, 103 octane i think, they also make higher stuff, but it's leaded. i think the highest unleaded for VP is 103,kinda expensive though.

Not sure exactly... It was the case for my Turbo MP3- and also feels to be the case for the evo. The more expensive gasses have extra cleaning elements that seem to make my car run different. Maybe my butt dyno needs calibration? hehe

VP makes about a gazillion different types of race gas, specific for many different applications. Everything from Pro MX 2 stroke fuel to Indy car fuel. Their fuel is the spec fuel for many national and international race series. They make high octane leaded and unleaded, and many oxygentated varieties (some with ETOH, some with MTBE). Their cheapest fuel is about $7 a gallon, the better stuff (like C-16) is about $10 a gallon.

In my race quad (4-stroke) I only use VP U4. It is oxygenated, leaded race fuel. Octane rating of about 98, 6% oxygen content from MTBE, and makes about 6% more power than any unoxygenated race fuel.

As far as regular daily fuel, I always use Sunoco 94 whenever I am near a station. If I am running low and not near a Sunoco, I choose Shell 93. Of course here in MI 99% of all our pump gas has 10% ETOH mixed in. Any of you non-MI guys get pure gasoline?

wow! is exxon still around? where are you from? i was under the impression that they went out of buisness after that last major oil spill..

as for addatives such as techron and v-power. well this turned out to be a myth but i've heard that with high performace applications that over time techron makes the cylinderwalls a bit brittle. whoever started that gig must have been out of their mind. but as for the residue that they leave behind, im sure it's no problem as long as you burn it out. 76 100 octane, chevron 91, and shell 91 all had ratings of .8 - .9 of distillation residue that was left behind. while others were somwhere near .3 - .6.. it's funny because i've sworn by chevron for along time. keep in mind that higher octanes will not give you better fuel economy. and technically it is official. these were tested compliments of (RON and MON) if you are unfarmilliar with these terms, well they're octane numbers and are used to measure.

There is a BP (they sell Amoco gas) right up the street from my house...it's open 24 hours, too...very convenient...I almost always get gas there. Amoco Ultimate 93 octane is some of the best you can get from what I heard. Of course, when you get right down to it, gas is gas...most places have the same quality of 93. I haven't noticed any difference in performance between brands around here.

YMMV...

Unocal 76 for my Evo, mixing in about 4 gallons 100 octane race gas with the rest 91 octane super unleaded. Only way to get around the **** poor CA gas.

However for my daily commuter Lancer OZ, I go with the cheap ARCO 87 octane gas. Gotta save money somewhere.

I can't tell a difference in any of the 93 octane stuff that we have here - maybe, MAYBE the Amoco 93 is the car's favorite - but it's tough to tell any real difference.

One thing I feel I should point out is that anything over 94 octane is wasted if you have a stock ecu. (Or so I read on here)

Lets see I got the BEST performance and worst milage from sunoco 94 (180ish per tank NOT ripping it). Sunoco 93 yeilded damn good performance (not as good as 94) but better gas milage (200ish). Exxon 93 was like **** water w/ poor performance and bad gas milage (160ish). BP 93 performed the same as sunoco 93. If I want to race and rip I go 94 and if I'm driving 60-100+ miles straight through I go 93 to save some money.
