I remember reading a while ago that Mitsu was going to have an eclipse concept E. It was supposed to be with the v6. plus a small electric engine for the front for low crusing revs. punch it and the v6 growls to life. plus there was supposed to have a huge electronic engine putting out something like another 200tq. or so to the rear wheels. supppsedly the electronic engines are cool cause of the instant torque they provide. So i guess it was supposed to be AWD. well they might release the concept E later on like the cobra and the 05' as well as the C6 ZO6. Also it was supposed to keep the rear motor going inbetween shifts somehow.. .talk about yehaw no pause in accel when shifting, or at least not as noticable. so only time will tell

I went to the LA Auto Show and saw it in person, up close 5inches away from it, THIS THING IS A JEWEL!!! Pictures absolutely, positively do this car NO JUSTICE. I was in LOVE, haha. There is no set price yet, but im pretty sure this could give a 350z, SRT4, RX8 and s2K a run for its money.

Far as power, it could be close against the evo.
Somebody said earlier said it best, the Eclipse was not created to be a match for the EVO, and it is not a match.

Power- It is not that close. I know what your thinking 260HP Eclipse to 276HP EVO VIII (16HP difference). Then again you have to realize that the EVO is underrated and on a Mustang Dyno can make 235 to 245WHP stock. The Eclipse will propbably make 210-215WHP.

Weight- The Eclipse with the 3.8L is going to way nearly 3500Lbs. That is 200Lbs+ over the EVO GSR.

Drivetrain- AWD>FWD

Styling- Is in the eye of the beholder, I like the Eclipse, but I enjoy the EVOs look more. I really dislike the single exit exhaust of the Eclipse, looks weird.

Acceleration- The EVO 0-60- under 5 seconds, I have my doubts on whether the Eclipse can do it under 6 seconds. Looking at it's power to weight (also FWD) suggests a low 6 second pass (6.1 to 6.3 seconds).

Wild Card- I'm comparing the 2006 Eclipse to the 2005 EVO VIII, the Eclipse may be even more out gunned when compared to the 2006 EVO IX.

there will be a lot of rich 17 year olds driving that car. Good move for mitsubishi, hopefully it will be a success for them and they won't go bankrupt

What are you talking about, did my post say anything about

o6 eclipse > o5 Evo GSR...? No.

I stated from "eyesite" my opinion and views of the o6 eclipse. The comment about "putting mistu back on the map" is true, the evo only appeals to a certain group (tuner/enthusiast) while the eclipse doesn't, it will appeal to a much more broader group... way more than the evo. Hint's why I said it will put mitsu back on the map more than the evo has.

Not feeling those side mirrors. Nice they ditched the Ruffles doors.

It kind of looks like Pontiac's version of a 350z. It has a ok shape, but I don't like the over bulbous quarter panels. The overhang of the bumpers don't give it an aggressive cutting edge look. I would pass, still a little chicky...but those are some sweet a$$ guages. I would like those in my Evo!

I like the design .... looks very sleek. I definately see this appealing to a different market segment tho ... Now if this came out as the concept E, we would be in trouble but thankfully that is not happening. Personally I have always fancied a 2 door AWD turbo sports car ...

I have an idea, instead of comparing the eclipse to an evo, lets compare it to say, I dunno an eclipse.. Look at what eclipse was a couple of years ago and look at what it is now.. This may bring back that zing that was the old gs-t and who knows mitsu may get bold and bring back that flar that was the gsx.... Compared to the the 2k eclipse this is a nice change and I like it better than the 350z almost looks like an infinity g35 coupe from the side.

Heck im considering one to be a daily driver.

Personally I like. The Eclipse has always had a lot of aftermarket support, this will be no different.
