Sacrilege?
Sacrilege?
Hi guys. First post. And i wanted to get everyones opinion on something. I, bit under 10 months from now will be turning 18, i know its a long way off, but basically i wanted to ask if it is a sacrilege, so to speak, or offensive to all you evo owners out there, if i were to get an Evo at about the time of my 18th birthday. Just for clarification, it wouldn't be handed to me or anything, and yes im still living with my parents. basically what would happen is for my 18th birthday they would give me permission to sell my current car, an '02 volvo S60, i know, i know, ima big cheese, and i would then use the money from that in addition to a bit of my own to attempt to purchase an '03 Evo. Just to reassure any of you otu there who think that an 18 year old is not fit for an evo, i am a bit of a car buff, already experienced at manual, although never on a car of the performance capabilities of an evo. So basically, i wanted to get all your opinions on whether you would take offense at an 18 year old being at the wheel of everyones favorite, or if, given the circumstances, being good with cars and all, you guys wouldnt mind. I chose the evo because it does not sacrifice practicality for performance, two goals i have in mind for my next car. So, with that said, please give your opinions on whether an 18 year old, however good with cars, deserves to have a car like this. If its any consolation i am accident/incident free for the entirety of my driving career, however short that may seem.

hey. how's the reliability on the s60 btw? i've heard the new volvos suck *** compared to old school, one of which is in Guiness book of records for 2 million miles on it or something like that on original motor.
as for the evo. there are plenty of ppl on the forum who are <20 or even <18 with evos. it all depends on how mature you're behind the wheel. sure in the s60 you might not have felt the need to do something wild on the streets, but evo is a different ball game. the car begs to be driven hard. the question is: can you hold yourself back from going crazy with it until you learn how to drive and control it at that level?
i'm sure many ppl here won't like the idea of yet another teen behind that momo wheel, especially since many of us (including myself) had to wait a long time for a good job and such to get a car like this. but the fact of the matter is, they won't frown on you if you keep your head cool when driving that car and keep it under control. you sound mature i guess, at least from your grammar and such, (none of the "3v0 RoXoRzzzz, i W4nt 1!!!"). so in the end, it's still YOUR decision, it's not about whether ppl will look down on you or their "r3sP3c!", it's about how sure you are with the whole decision, since it'll involve LOTS of dough for insurance and such. so if you're ready, go for it! good luck.

Well.. why do you care how other people think? If you can afford it, get it. it's your own business... none of the others business.
it's not like if you see other fellow evo cars on the road they are going to stop you on the side and beat you up. We will still knod our head or flash our lights to say hi like we do to any other evo driver on the road.
It's true that as an Evo driver we dont like to see another 18 year old teen driving Evo BECAUSE they will end up TOTAL this super vehicle at a very high %.
Just... be extra careful when you drive ok?

Everyone at Evom is cool. No worries about getting a hard time, just don't advertise. Hell I just turned 19, I find more in common with the people on these forums than the kids i hang out with on saturday nights!
Its only our business if you morph into a menace to others on the road, but you sound responsible to me. If you get the Evo, you may want to consider attending an autocross driver's ed session or two, and then try a couple of autocrosses. I have found it invaluable in developing my driving skills. Later, when you are confident and comfortable, you may want to try a track day or other supervised high speed driver's ed experience.

I know ppl twice your age that shouldn't be driving period. If you keep a cool head about driving and taking the fun stuff to the track (maybe a little on the backroads w/no ppl around) you'll do alright with the EVO. Good luck!
