We also pay the states bills with these uncalled for tickets. I'd take the chance and fight it....but that is just me....A cop has no right to do that. To pull you over for a speeding violation, and the fact of the matter is you weren't speeding, then nab you for exhaust, when there isn't a law that mandates your exhaust being illegal. In the end there was no probable cause for pulling you over. Thats how I'd state it to the judge.

Hey man sorry bout ur ticket. Honestly Just pay it they will make u pay court fees and if u dont have a lawyer 99.9 percent of the time u will loose and i dont know if u have a cat on ur car or not but What if they will come out and see the exhaust in the court room and look under the car with a mirror and see u have no cat thats like a 5000 FINE man dont f*ck with that just pay that fine take it up the A$$ like most of us do and go to work or school instead and forget about it . Get that DP level checked out and have it ready for next time i dotn know if its good advice its just that what i would do the ticket isgoing to be 70 bucks and my day of work is worth a little more then that u know what i mean.

fight it - i would absoulty fight it (assuming your db's really are under the legal limit). if he's going to ticket you for it, he should be able to PROVE it - we can't let them get away with ticketing people for fun/profit.

 

well i looked at my ticket more carefully and it looks like he also got me for tinted windows, they arnt limo tint by all means but the fronts are done how does this effect the fighting of the exhaust?

 

Did he write the tinted windows on the same ticket or on a seperate ticket. He has to have each one on a seperate ticket. Also, on each ticket, he has to say that the two tickets are linked to the same stop. If not, then only one ticket is valid. Be prepared to fight both though, as some judges will let both tickets be heard anyway (against the law). Because you can't get two tickets for two different stops at the same time. If he doesn't write on both tickets that they are linked together, then it would be just like it was two different stops and you can't be in two places at the same time. Talk to a lawyer or a friend that's a police officer and get the exact law about this (don't take my word for it as it could be different in PA). I know it worked for me (the judge called it Double Jeopardy). Make sure that all the information typed on the ticket is correct as well. If anything is misspelled, your address or name or anything, and if he doesn't sign it. The ticket isn't valid. Just a couple of things to look for. Good luck.

That is why you don't pull all of that crap out in front of the cop. He or she does not care. If they ticket you they will. The more stuff you put in front of them, the more likely they will ticket you. the more legal you get the more irritated they get. hence the calling more cops and the wait. They dont' give a damn. Lesson. if you are are legally trained, don't let them know that.

 

seems to me like you dont need to do anything, if he didnt have a dB meter then how can he issue a ticket? if a cop is sitting by the road can he pull you over with out having a radar or laser?

police officer on the stand: illegal exhaust, modified..
you: well the law says that the exhaust is illegal only if it reaches over a certain dB level
police officer: okay?
you: that day you issued the ticket, did you have a dB meter?
police officer: no. but i can hear it..
you: so you're ears are certified dB meters, douche bag?

Exactly same thing happened to me... and I'm waiting for the court date which is next tuesday.

Here's what you need to do:
Call the referee station 1-800-622-7733 and make an appointment only if youre sure your exhaust is under 95dbs but if your car is 05, they don't have specs so they won't test your vehicle and will give you void paper ( i have 05 so I know)
But if you have other than 05 and if you pass the test, you will get a certification then you can bring that to court and pay $10 for court fee. you are all set!

I have 05 and they didn't test mine, so now I have to go to court and fight for the ticket... I have HKS and I have exhasut statement of compliance paper....hope I can prove my HKS is street legal...

 

It is people like your brother that give cops a bad rep. I'm not even going to mention that this is illegal (ie profiling imports as it is just fun for them).

I took off my STOCK EVO wing because of cops like your brother - to avoid the hassle... If people like your brother did not exist, I would have kept the wing on the car and enjoyed it as I actually like the looks of it.

Tell your brother to grow up and bahave like a decent human being. Maybe inform him that high school has been out for a while. Tell him to pull over people that are an actual danger to the public such as driving with broken headlights, not using turn signals, reading while driving, yapping on cell phones, running red lights, and so on and so on...

 

I would fight it, i got a speeding ticket... 45km/h in a 30km/h school zone, and the cop was shooting laser. The ticket was a few hundred dollars. I took it to court becuase the cop refused to show me the gun when he gave me the ticket, and I won. I didn't even have to show up at court, the lawyer did it all for me and represented me in court (only had to pay like $60 for the lawyer, was from an angency that specializes in automobile cases. The agency is called POINTS)

You have to be careful in court though because cops do lie on the stand. A few years ago I had a state cop that was constantly pulling me over ( I think in all I got pulled over aound 15 times by him in a year). Well I had clear tails on my car, not altezzas so they WERE ILLEGAL. Well he gave me a warning but I was to stupid to take heed. A week later he pulled me again and gave another warning. Well this time I got smart and ordered DOT approved altezzas. He pulled me over again the next day and gave me a ticket. I explained that I had legal tailights ordered(had gotten rid of my stockers), showed him the receipt, and I had bought red reflective tape that I had put on my bumper. He said fine that he was still gonna give me the ticket and that if it was changed by court he would drop it. Well court comes and he LIES about everything, saying that he never said he would drop it, and that I didnt have reflective tape, and didnt show him any proof that I had new ones on order and the judge believed him!!! Not saying all cops are like this as I have two brother in-laws that are cops but you have to watch out. Thanks for letting me vent and good luck!!
