Well, I washed the car today and noticed my hood vent is starting to fade its dull black color off and show slight hints of aluminum color. With what and how would be the best way to take this off and spray it down with something so It wont look all nastyfied.

IT comes off with a couple of clips. I think people have posted a lot about this. I know there was a black one somewhere that had the vent painted blue...

you can find a domestic tuning shop, they should have a engine spray flat black and make sure its heat resitant. i swaped over to the ralliart one so i don't have to deal with the rust or discolor. hopes this helps

Mine was lookin pretty sad too so I scuffed it, cleaned it with thinner, then resprayed it (gloss black spraypaint) and it looks new. I did it 3 months ago and it still looks new.

Yea I have the same problem...but I wonder how it would look if you sanded/dremled the vent so it was silver then polished it up all nice like.....

I saw the same thing happen to my vent and I took some Brasso to it and made a shiny spot. It took me about four days to get it cleaned up to the point that I was happy with it. It is bright shiny polished aluminum now and looks nice. Some words of caution: If you have an 03, the center part of the heat shield is prone to crack from the flexing motion involved in cleaning it this way. The 04 shield has circular holes drilled to help keep it from cracking. I'm sure the 05 is the same as the 04. Hope this helps.

I just took mine off....and left it off....most Evo owners seem to do this. It looks nice with the proper engine dress up. Also, seems to get more air in for my suction intake. I was concerned about drag but...there is none...air freely flows in and out.

Just goto discount auto parts and get the duplicolor 1200 degree paint, unclip and paint it. I painted my rusty heatshield while I was at it

Mine looks like crap too but I really can't take it off and leave it off. Too much snow and other crap would fall into the engine bay living here in the Midwest. I'll probably just paint it this spring/summer.
