05 HID's on non SSL EVO

Does anyone know if you can just pick up a set of oem HID headlights from mitsu and install them on a non-SSL equipped EVO? I am buying an 05 GSR but I don't want the leather, the upgraded radio or the sunroof. Please help I would really like to know. I already did a search and found nothing. Thanks folks.

Yeah, you can order it as an option from most dealers....it's just like getting a replacement part, just a really expensive one .

you could put some work in it and find a dead evo, take the ballast and the bulbs out and install it on your headlights.

i'm sure you could work that out with the dealerships as well. i used to get free crap when I promised the sales guy that we'll sign the satifactory report all A's for him. They get bonus and placement with those.

I would really rather not do aftermarket HID's just because they are never really what you expect. As to finding a dead evo that isn't scavenged already is virtually impossible. I'm just hoping stock head lights are basically plug and play

you can order them through the dealer, but it's a kind of expensive option, i'll check a little later and repost.
actually, i doub le checked, it has to be a dealer installed option( kinda expensive) or you have to get the SSL. i would get the ssl, or go aftermarket for the HID's.

Yeah I figured it would be expensive. I would just rather have just the weight of the HID's over the HID's and the sunroof and the extra speaker. It all depends on the difference price wise from the package to just the headlights. I guess the only way to find out is to go to mitsu
OR I could just get JDM headlights
any input people???

O.K., i'll tell you the cdeal about HID's. I have the stock ones in my Evo, I have also had a set of Phillips Ballast and HID bulbs in my civic before, I have had both the Hella Ballast and HID set for the Low beams in my s-10, and the Sylvania aftermarket fog lights( dot legal), and i put the 8000k Hid's in my girfriends V6 Accord. HIDexpress was very helful in helping me find bulbs.
Aftermarket HID ballasts do not like water. I have fried 3 ballasts before of diferent makes so make sure you find a dry place for them. What I like about the HIDexpress models is that they have a long cord, so you can mount the ballasts kinda far away from the headlights. If you do get aftermarket, i suggest going w/ lower kelvins, no higher than 6k at the most. the 8k kelvins are ticket attractors, but they look way cool. The 10k bulbs look so purple, that they have a sort of pink hue, so not suggested. I have one extra ballast and a set of 9006 10k bulbs as a backup for my girlfriends car. Make sure you get the color you want cause a new set of bulbs will be about 175-200 bucks.
Hope this helps a little
BTW, the ballasts don't weight to much, i doubt it has any real performance detriments.

I guess I like to stick to the phrase "Keep it simple stupid" I know that not much can go wrong with stock headlights and Stanley is actually the best maker of headlights/taillights in the world period.

I remember seeing a post with someone who put aftermarket hids in his halogen evo projectors. it scattered and glared pretty bad compared to the OEM HID units. you will never get the same quality out of a aftermarket +halogen projector that you will from an OEM HID setup.

i say go with the OEM unit and if you have to get the SSL you can always trade+$$ the leather seats to get back some money and unless you plan on hardcore racing i doubt but extra weight from the sound and sunroof are going to hurt performance.
