Insurance rate increase (reclassifiction)

Well my insurance agent called to let me know my rates will be going up around 50 a month. This really pisses me off..

I'm almost 25 no wrecks no tickets and the one time I tried to make a claim (broken windshield) They would have paid 5 bucks because my 250 deducitible.

I really think insurance is one of the biggest scams out there... especially for careful drivers with clean records. By the time I've paid my car off I will have paid over half its value to the insurance company for absolutly nothing in return.

Wouldn't it be nice if 50% of your premium was put into a "trust" account that could be used when you get in a wreck or for car repairs? I doubt that will ever happen but it would be a great concept.

How much is your insurance per month, half the cars value seems a bit steep. I have Wisconsin insurance and mine runs $74 a month. That is only about 4500 paid in when the car is paid off.

You are actually not required to have insurance. You are only required to have insurance if your car is financed, because the car is the asset that guarantees your debt is repaid, so the bank requires it. In CA (not sure about other states), you can also setup a $30,000 bond, which will cover you for liability, so you do not require that either. Bottom line, if you don't like insurance, insure yourself (if you can afford it). If you can't afford it, then it's part of the price you have to pay to play. It sucks, but it isn't entirely unjustified.

I would shop around again for the best rate. When you find one you can call the old insurance company up and tell them thanks for raising the rates, but I'm going to go ahead and cancel. Fifty bucks a month is alot.

you're required to have liability, but not having at least theft on a car like the evo... seems nuts.

i heard insurance will be directly linked up to registration, so the police will be able to immediately tell which one you don't have, hence, citing you.

this went into effect January of this year, but not all insurance companies have updated and hooked up with DMV as of yet. ask your insurance company about it.

That's Crazy!!!

My insurance for full coverage, $500 ded. is only $54mo. I'm 23 and everything is in my name. That means your ins. went up by almost as much as I pay, that's ridiculous.

btw: i swore that florida had the policy number on the reg tag, but i just looked at it isn't. I'm almost 100% sure indiana did. They always ask for a new card, because the policy number changes.

Maybe living in the Midwest isn't that bad

Also when I bought it, I had to request that they set it up as a secondary driver and that I carry liability on a 91 talon TSI. That is the way that I always have done it and you have to ask everytime, they never suggest it on their own. It is insured no matter how many miles I drive and they know it's my primary car.

I was thinking about selling my evo to my little brother (he's 18), and asked about setting it up like this and keeping liability on his truck and the price went from almost 900 every 6 months to only $59 a month.

When it is a "secondary" car, they insure the car not your age, that's why it gets so cheap.
