Number one, great choice, the SV650 is a fun bike. I have a Z1000, but I have a lot of sadle time on a SV650, great V-twin torque. I am going through Nationwide for my Evo, bike, and renters. I have a clean record, but all together I pay $218 a month for full coverage on everything, $250 deductable, and $75,000 renters. How old are you and is your record clean?

Keep shopping for insurance. Ask for Motorcycle Safety class discount / any discount you can get. Bring some evidence about the bike in hand, and explain that its a very safe bike (assuming a responsible rider) to insure, maintain, and repair if necessary. I'd even go so far as purchasing the riding equipment before it goes out the door, plan on at least $500.00 to $1000.00 for good equipment ...

and if I find you with a GF / date / honey on the back without a helmet / halfway decent riding gear, I'll chase you down on my modded SV650S and kick yer ---. j/k

jcnel.

I have a friend who is about 19 almost 20 he has a 2004 R1 or 05 can't remember and his insurance is dirt cheap. He found some insurance company out of florida I don't remember who it was. I think he pays about $800 or so a year. I'd have to ask him again if you want more info you can pm me.

I had a friend who had a real screwed up drving record and paid $80 a month. Insurance lady explained to him how they see it, if you crash the damage isnt going to be to expensive because bikes are not worth as much as cars, and smaller and cause less damage. But if you crash real bad the chances of you surviving are slim and you are not around to claim anything.

If you live in the sub., try Country Companies. When I got my CBR F3 at 26 yrs old back in 1997, everywhere I called was quoting well over $1000/yr, but Country Companies only charged me ~$300/yr, given the fact I have a perfect clean driving record. I stayed with them ever since and no complain at all. I would recommend them even if you don't have a bike.

I Have A Kawasaki Zx6 And I Pay 25 A Month For It, And Pay 100 A Month For My Evo, And The Rest Of My Cars Are Pretty Cheap Too. Shop Around, If You Have A Decent Record You Should Get A Decent Price. And Yes A Lot Of People Out There Who Ride, At Least The Ones I Know, Have Nice Bikes But Got A Little Beater For A Car So They Also Don't Pay Much.
OH YEAH, I GO THROUGH USAA IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING AND I AM 25.

I don't think I had a bike before 25 years old, so I'm probably an "old focker" to ya, but I know I never paid much for my insurance. Never over about 500/year (Duc and ZX-9R were the 2 bikes I had)...good luck. I just went through State Farm with my stuff (but I have home/car/and moto on it...)

yea state farm for me also... had a CBR600F2 when i was 18.... and it was not bad. Have had it through them ever since. But i think you have to have your cars or house with them also. They will not insure a bike only

I use State Farm for my Italian fleet of bikes. I have 4 bikes and pay about $49 for full coverage for all of them. The bad part is I pay about $20 more a month on the EVO, but State farm is so cheap on my bikes I don't want to care. BTW, I am 26.

I know alot of guys that dont even have insurance for their bikes... IMO, that is crazy.

Good luck finding good insurance, so many things depend on how you rate with the insurance companies... Iremember reading an article in sport rider a couple of months back about hoe expensive it can get.

A good idea is to go to the gixxer forums and ask over there.. I am sure they have stickies about it.

btw - I got nice boots, gloves and jacket for sale, PM if interested =)

Stay away from the risk type insurance companies like AIG, Progressive, etc.

I have State Farm for all my insurance and I am paying around $29/mo., of course I am 34/married and have all my vehicles and homeowners through them.

You see, State Farm classifies the bike based on 'CC' size and NOT by a bike classification (i.e. Sportbike, Cruiser, Tourer, etc.).

So talk to a State Farm agent first and get a quote.

Right now I have a 2002 Ducati 998 and as I stated earlier I pay around $350/yr. for full coverage.

Good LUCK!
