RECALL undertakers: SIGN IN *INFO REQUESTED*

I went to mitsubishi today because i lost the key to my wheel locks. I ordered 4 lugs from mitsubishiparts and brought them down. The way i pictured it in my head was, Id use the key and take the lock off, no problem. A few minutes of chatting, 36 bucks later i had my locks off and lugs on. Fricking rip off. Anyhow, while i was in the waiting room the guy comes over to me and says, can you bring the car back again some time soon? and i asked why? He says i have some recalls that need to be done. Now, here's the problem.

a) he said i have to get the fan controller(or whatever the recall is) replaced/fixed and then said something about o2 sensor. I was confused as he was talking about the cat blah blah blah and i dont have a cat.

For those of you who have gotten recalls taken care of and are modified (no cat) what did you do? Should i just reschedule and put my stock cat back on for the time being? or will mitsu not say anything about my car?

Haven't heard of the O2 sensor recall yet, maybe something is on it's way in the mail?

The fan controller recall is a quick fix, takes about a half hour of actual work. Two things to check for though:

1. Make sure dealership idiots actually have the new fan controller in stock before they take your car apart

2. Make sure dealership idiots reconnect the intercooler hoses. You'll know they didn't when you get on the gas, hear a WHOOOSH that's 10X louder than before but your car accelerates like a freakin Yugo.

Both of these happened to me when I went in for that recall. Needless to say, I watch my car being worked on from now on.

i have no cat on my car...i am going to get recalls done. When they jack my car up to do the various recalls and see a straight pipe...what will they do? Ignore it and work on my car or what? Because as you know no cats are illegal in i believe all 50 states.

They dont give a rats ***...that's why I was confused by your question...why the hell would they care what you do that saves them money? Hell...GETS them money, they're not the US Gov., not even your emissions place will care, they'll just say you don't pass
Oh, and I know this from experience, my dealer hasn't even said a thing...except "that's a nice exhaust"

A recall is required to be completed by a dealership if the applicable change can still be made. They cannot deny you recall work because your car is modified. The point of the recall is to prevent something from occuring. If you bring it to them and they don't do the work, and something fails, then the responsibility lies on them.

The only thing they can possibly do is notate your car has been/is modified incase something fails in the future. If you'd made changes to the O2 sensor, IE cutting wires, etc... Other then that, no, you have nothing to worry about.

The only people who can get in trouble for emissions are shops if they remove the cat.

If they see an emissions violation of that type they are bound by law to report it. Money is sure the issue when it come to THEM paying huge fines for not reporting it.

Your dealership is taking a huge risk and I wouldn't count on any other dealership taking that risk.... epsecially when they can say "buy this new stock downpipe and cat from us or we are reporting this to the feds".... extortion is just another path to profit for them.
