How do I check if camshafts are stock or HKS?

Car I'm looking at the buy from a dealership might have HKS 264/264 camshafts... or they might be stock, I don't know. How can I find out without removing the valve cover? It idles like stock, but it also has a re-flashed ecu (doesn't redline at 7krpm). Any suggestions?

only way would be to remove the valve cover. the HKS cams have an HKS stamp on them.

but if the person selling the car to the dealership didnt tell them, then the dealership is in the dark too.

Id think twice about buying that evo, IMO most of the time if the car was modded it was usually driven hard. Alot of the time delearships dont know anything about evo's, when i bought mine the dealer thought it was a lancer with a body kit and a hefty price tag.

Ok then the dealership doesn't inspect any of the cars they sell? Any normal person would have taken those cams out and put stockers back in and then sell the aftermarkets.

I'd have a mechanic you trust come with you to check it out.

get a evolution cam shaft inspecion port check tool, you can get one from your local hardwere store just ask for a 2.5 inch hole saw they should have them in stock should only cost you about 7 dollars lol
seriously you might be able to see one of the holes on the cam through the oil cap. the stock cams have holes drilled in them and the hks cams do not, also the size of the flats for a wrench on the stock cams are somehting like 1 and 1/16 or some crap like that were the oens on the hks cams are 1 inch. i cant find my stock cams to see if there is a spot on them that youd be able to see through the oil cap though

What even gives you the idea that their is aftermarket cams in the car?

The fact that the car has everything else that's included in the Buschur Racing Stages 1-3, minus the exhaust... and the only thing the dealership ppl could tell me is "the exhaust and turbo manifold are port&polished... and it has some kinda intake thingie (refering to the BR MAF pipe w/ air filter)"... so I'm only assuming the cams that come in the BR stg. 3 package are on this car, but not 100% sure.

What exactly should I be looking for when looking down the oil cap? Got any pics of stock/hks... or what to see down the oil cap? I'd apprecaite it!

You should be able to tell by the way the car idles... even mild cams have a bit more rough idle. The cam will look identical to the factory cam except for the stamped HKS logo on the shaft.
