US Evo 8 Clutch ?
We probably won't know until some of the magazines do some tests. The only reviews I've seen so far are from the M5 forum, Dinesh, and AutoExpress. I haven't heard anything specifically about the clutch...
According to the info I have -it says 240 mm clutch disk (vs 215 mm in base Lancer) that engages a lightweight fluwheels surface with the help of an upgraded pressure place and a synthetic fiber clutch disc friction surface.
So probably no - the same as the Evo VII.

Were there any reliability issues in the Evo VII that someone may foresee as a possibly problem on the Evo VIII. The reason I ask is it's usually the case with first sun vehicles concerning recalls and just poorly built cars. Or can we safely assue that because the Evo is built entirely in Japan that hte car will be more than fairly strong in it's first few years?

In an all wheel drive car - you need some kind of fuse in the driveline . In most stock cars its the clutch.
If you race or abuse the car - its going to wear out. I would say it should not be a waranteed item.
Its like brakes - or tires. One hard track day will wear out a set of brakes or tires. If you drive it like grandma they should last 30,000 miles or more...
A few hard launches will wear out the clutch.

"A few hard launches will wear out the clutch."
So what does that mean exactly? So when I bring my Evo to a road course event in April, I should expect to have to change my clutch shortly after? That would be silly.
I've driven my Type R through a few road courses, a dozen autocrosses, and 57k of regular driving....and the clutch still works great.

I think it all depends on the driver. If you drag race it every weekend, then expect to replace the clutch with an upgraded unit before too long. But if you don't do 5-grand launches all the time then the clutch should last as long as any other car.
I know people in the DSM community that go through clutches like tanks of gas, but I use a basically stock clutch and it holds up very well to auto-x, occasional launches, and hard street driving. I'd say the Evo's clutch should be fine, but like anything else you'll probably want to upgrade it eventually!

Exactly, the clutch should last just fine as long as you don't abuse it (ie. dump the clutch for any reason). This should be a concern for those who plan to launch the Evo hard, but for those of us that plan to attend track events, we just need to worry about fluid changes, brake pad and tire wear, and rotor warpage.

Ok, GOOD!
So it's the street racers that should be worried about premature clutch wear...not those of us who keep our aggressive driving on the track.
I know I won't ever be dumping the clutch from high rpm's....
In road course events, or performance driving classes, you really aren't racing anyone. So you don't have to worry about the launches...you just have to shift smoothly.

Just a guess, but how many launches at around 3k can it handle??? are we talking like hundreds or like 30??? Also does anyone know about the cost to replace the stock clutch on an Evo with a new stock clutch?

...transmission soup anyone?...
