aftermarket steering wheel

Has anyone instaled a Momo or Sparco steering wheel on an EVO? I called around and apparently, there is not an adaptor for the EVO. I'd like to use a quick-release with a substantial offset and some spacer plates to bring the steering wheel closer to me. IDeally, I'd like to do it without cutting or welding and sleeve onto the existing steering shaft. Any help would be apprecaited.
Thanks,
Larry

Airbags help save lives and reduce injuries.

I pretty sure someone has a steering wheel for the Evo though.

I think this is the first I have ever heard of someone wanting a new steering wheel. I see your point but the momo one is so perfect.

Yeah, I can't imagine why you'd want yet an even more aftermarket type of steering wheel....

there is an easy mod to solve your problems... just move the seat forward a couple clicks. chances are that you are probably driving with the seat too reclined for a proper driving position and a combo of coming a little closer and more vertical will give you the perfect position. The basic rule is that you want to be sitting so your wrists are just over the top of the wheel when you reach out.

The Splash hub kit is the only one that fits the Evo without modification. Contact Adam at Z1.

i think the smaller diameter wheels with knee saver design is what he might be looking at.

it reduces the weight of the steering as well as giving the driver a quicker turn response and better feedback of the road.

he could be looking to make his car a track only car.

if not, you could always take the airbag out and use the steering wheel without the airbag.

I think SCCA wont allow airbag for safety concerns due to it may bust the helmets clear shield or something in that line.

If you're doing this not for track, you're just asking for it. anything older than 97( i think) without an airbag is a federal offense.

Cop sees that, you could goto jail.

I have a MOMO steering wheel and I love it, on the top of that it has an airbag, and one more thing it is stock.
I don't think many people have replaced it since it looks and feels very nicely.

Adam at Z1 Auto has aftermarket steering wheel hubs for the EVO that work with Sparco or Momo wheels.

Believe it or not, there's actually a HUGE debate about whether airbags actually save lives. If people use a proper seating position, hold the wheel properly, and always use a seatbelt, then airbags don't do much. Remember airbags were part of the huge "passive safety" craze of the late 1980's and early 1990's. They're designed to protect unrestrained drivers. It's hardly a fact that they "save lives."

Further, there are all kinds of airbag related injuries (broken arms/hands/wrists and facial trauma) in what would otherwise be minor fender benders. just think about what happens when you're holding the wheel 2F2F style at the 12:00 position and the airbag goes off. In other words, there's good evidence to show that airbags actually increase injuries at lower speeds but not much literature to support that they make a real difference at high speeds.

For the record, I'm an MD and I used to work in a major trauma center. This whole issue is hardly as clear-cut as you might think.

Depends on what you're used to. I find the stock wheel too big and the rim is way too thin. Drive a BMW E46 M3 and compare the feel of the rim! Also, those of us with lots of track experience are used to smaller, thicker rimmed wheels that are much closer to us than the stock Evo wheel. I agree it's nice for a street car, but it can definitely be improved.

So would you say its a bit safer for removal of the entire air bag system from the car and force people riding in my car to waer seatbelts (4 to 5 point harness) and just sit correctly in their seats?
