Two young Manchester United players are facing possible jail terms after leaving two people injured when they goaded each other into a high-speed road race.
Mads Timm (20) and Callum Flanagan (19) used their high-powered sports cars to race each other after leaving United's training ground.

Flanagan lost control of his black Honda Civic on a bend and crashed with another car driven by Angela Bourne. He suffered heel and knee injuries and a passenger in Flanagan's car, team-mate Phil Marsh, had to be cut from the wreckage.

Flanagan, described in court as a 'boy racer', admitted dangerous driving but Danish striker Timm, who scored the winning goal for United's reserve team in their 2-1 win over Oldham on Wednesday, denied the charge.

The jury took less than an hour to convict Timm of dangerous driving at his trial last month. Both will be sentenced on Thursday at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester.

The court heard how the pair had sped along a 40mph road in Partington in the city after finishing a training session at around 1pm on January 14 last year.

They had been racing along roads in convoy at high speed when the crash happened.

Timm, driving a powerful silver Mitsubishi Evolution, led the chase and drove around a right hand bend. Flanagan followed in his Honda Civic, but lost control of the car and collided into the oncoming vehicle.

Witnesses reported seeing the players exchanging taunts and gesticulating to one another prior to the crash.

The duo face up to to two years imprisonment, the maximum sentence for dangerous driving.

At least it sounds like the Evo beat the Civic. Nobody died so that is also a plus.
