I tried both (STi / EVO8 / EVO8 MR) and I chose the Evo MR. I don't like the looks of the STi as much (without a body kit) and the the MR is the best drive I've had in a stock car and one of the best in any car! I've had some pretty good drivers (Datsun 510, 240Z; '98 Mitsu Eclipse GSX, '91 VR4; '03 Toyota GT-S; - all very modified), and the MR is the best. I agree with those who say if you don't abuse it then reliability wont be a problem.

Unfortunately there is a low percentage of cars on both sides that have problems.
Sorry for your misfortune -- you are not the norm.

yea i never said i didnt like the car, but using it as a commuter car when you commute 80+ miles a day is pure folly. Even if you have no problems, maintenance alone on this beast will crush you at that rate. This car isn't meant to be driven that much.

I could never accept that hood scoop that could double as a homeless shelter.

you have to drive an evo one way or the other. Digging through the rest of the details would be splitting hairs. I drove both, and i liked the evo better...much better.

I think evo's are cheaper to mod to a certain point as well.

I like them both. Never driven the STI yet, but if I were to get another car it would have to be another evo. I don't know why, it's always been EVO for me. It's like I prefered walking than running.
