Question MR vs. C5 vette?

My friend's got a C5 Vette, I was just wondering what mods I might need to keep up with him/beat him in the 1/4. It's pretty much stock and is an atuo trans. Does auto trans give me a little advantage or disadvantage? Since it's auto shifts faster, but he can't take it to redline/ almost red line... or can he? I think he said it was factory raited at about 350 HP. I have a stock MR with Pirreli Pzero nero M&S tires.

Also another question, does tire Preassure effect time/speed at all? I know kinda newbieish..

I have an 03 Evo with Buschur TBE, Turbo XS boost controller, Helix Air Intake, Helix Intercooler piping, Greddy RS BOV, Walbro fuel pump, S-AFC2, ACT clutch, Fidanza flywheel, and without my 50-shot, from a slow roll I slowly pull away from my boy's 02 C5, his is a manual and bone stock. From a dead stop it is really no contest, even with his competition driving mode thingy. He did tell me that the 2002s and up with the LS2 motor are quicker that the earlier models. I realized that when I dusted the socks of some old guy on the freeway, his had to be older than an 02. So my suggestion would be to go with the boost controller, exhaust, and AFC or an ECU reflash and you should be able to take out a C5 that's stock... good luck and make sure you get the Buschur Exhaust, it has to be the best single mod for any car I have ever purchased in my life, it installed, looks, sounds, and performs great, and it is affordable....you just can't beat it.

The LS2 moter is the 6.0L and didn't come out till this year (2005) models with 400hp. The Z06 has the LS7 500hp moter.

Previous gens had the LS1 - I believe at 350hp.

I would think you could take him with about $1300-$1500 in mods. Get a flash/piggyback and a TBE (doesn't have to be Buscher to get a good one, but they are good). With that combo on 93 octane, you'll be just under 350hp probably - and with an AWD launch, you'll be able to take him. Probably run high 12's.

With the mods they say above (TBE/BoostControl/Tuning), you'll definitely beat a regular c5 stop or roll... as far as the c5 z06 and the new c6, you'll maybe just match them in the 1/4 (high 12s). When the new c6 z06 comes out... you're going to need a lot more

If you know how to launch your car you can probably beat him with just a piggyback or maybe with a downpipe or catback. The thing is that RWD cars is hard to bite from a stand still. You guys should go to the track and let us know on your results. If you get 1.7-1.85 in the 60ft your launch is decent and translate to a decent run. You can also powershift every gear to ensure your win. Stock for stock the cars are close and probably depends on driver's skill in the quarter.

I've never been to the track, never done a 1/4 run. I have luanched my car once succesfully, but I didn't really mean to. When I tried again it didn't work. I didn't do a really high rpm launch, maybe 3k? but I did feel it... and man it was nice lol. Is there a good way to do it other than just slipping the clutch out and hopping that you don't bog? And powershifting is that just shifting almost at redline and really fast?

My Z06 is the fastest thing on 4 wheels. Avoid the '02 and later Z06's and you should have a 50/50 chance like any other race.

I don't car what's next to me. Viper, Lamborghini, Ferrari....I will always race em. But, if it's the Lamborghini, I might strike up a conversation first. Ha!

3k? The MR has a launch restriction at 5K. Just hold at wide open throttle and release clutch without burning it. (right amout of speed basically dropping it). That will give you the boost you'd need to run low 13's.

If you granny shift and launch it at 3K you'd probably run high 13's all day Powershift is basically full throttle until the quarter mile is up. That means when you shift, basically the Rpm's shoot up to redline since you are not letting off the gas. This way you do not loose that much boost bewteen shifts and it's like a mini launch after each shift. Go to slow and you may over rev your engine and missing a shift can be hazzardous. Go practice holding the throttle and shift at around 4K until you feel 100% confident then work on your launch and smoke that vette

You can always speed shift but all it takes is a slow shift and bad launch to loose a race. Remember to keep it at the track. Street racing sucks not to mention if somone has a half of a second headstart meaning they won the race.

In a 1/4 mile race, a C5 vs. EVO would be a close race, I'm thinking you could win that stock for stock if you are good driver. But you did mention only launch your car once on accident, so you may lose, then again he could be just as bad, but he does have an auto. I don't know, go race him and find out. What is with all these comparisons, expecially the EVO vs. STi, I thought the other car section was for this stuff.

put 3k bucks worth of mods on that evo and your tune will soon change, def from a dig anyway. I will agree though, 02+ Zohs are bad. A buddy of mine ran a 12.07@117 with only DRs and a filter. Id say thats smokin.

I have an 01 Z06 and an 05 Evo (both stock) and the Corvette really does have more power (SOTP wise - never raced them side by side), although I have to be on the Vette pretty hard since the Evo has great mid range punch. It's in the higer end where the Evo falls off and the torque of the Corvette takes over. I don't doubt a modded Evo would be faster, especially under 100 mph.

With what, a stock EVO?.... Dream on, 14's will be all he can do running like that. Oh yeah, power shifting and speed shifting are not so easy to do... Particularly if the driver has no experience.
