APR Carbon Fiber Splitter Owners! I have a question!

This question is for all the people who have an APR Carbon Fiber splitter.

1. Do you guys find it a pain in the *** to have to remove the splitter everytime u want to get ur oil changed? Because to remove the splitter, u have to remove the entire front bumper.

Have you guys found any way to get around it?

Please let me know.

Thanks!

Mine comes on and off in about 10 minutes WITHOUT removing the bumper. I use heavier hardware with double washers to make it more secure and even the furthest bolt I can reach easily. I put the front of the car on jackstands, crawl under with the splitter on by chest and then put in the bolts.

I don't change my oil myself but I know I've had the APR spliter on when the dealership changed the oil and I know they didn't have to remove the splitter at all.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply!

Would you mind going into a little bit more detail of how you have urs setup? how is it so easy to install and un install? What about the nuts on the inside of the bumper?

I have no problem accessing the oil drain plug and oil filter. I bought mine a year ago so may be they change the design since?

Mine looks like that withough the APR logo on the front. I jack the car up and put it on stands. I remove the million plastic screw-clip things and pull off the factory plastic undertray. I have nuts and bolts (stainless) with washers on each side of the splitter. I crawl under the car with the splitter on my chest. The holes in the splitter line up with the holes in the bumper. I put in the bolts closest to the front of the car in loosely and then the corners and center bolts loosely so it stays up on it's own. Then I slide under the car farther and slide my arm on top of the splitter toward the front bumper and tighten each of the 3 or 4 center-front bolts since they are the hardest to reach once the other bolts are tight. Then I work my way around and tighten all the bolts.

The 3 or 4 that are in the center of the splitter toward the front bumper are the hardest to reach so I always do them first. With the back part of the splitter loose I can easily reach them with a wrench. The back edge of the splitter where the rivetted APR plate is is in my arm pit when I'm doing those bolts (to give you a picture of how I reach in there.) Make sure your car is cooled down when you do it to avoid the nasty burn.

I don't have the silver rods on mine like some people do. Maybe that's what is the hard part for you??

beebers: thanks for the info bro, helps out a lot!
Is there really enough room to move ur arm around over the splitter?

I can do the install myself, that really shouldn't b a problem. The only thing that was bothering me is the situation with the oil filter/oil pan being covered by the splitter. and since i get my oil changed by the dealership, they dont wanna bother taking my splitter/bumper off. Ya know?

Now from some people i've heard that the splitter doesn't block the oil filter/pan, and then some people say it does.

I duno what to beleive

As long as the other bolts are loose or not connected my arm reaches the front bolts. Honestly I've had it on and off the car 4 times already (10-minutes). I'm average size (not big or small arms). It takes a little contorting...like I said the edge of the splitter is in your right armpit and I swinlg my legs toward the drivers side tire to extend a little more. I put the nut on the top side of each bolt so it looks cleaner from below so it's even harder and I still reach it no problem.

I've had my oil changed twice at the dealership with the splitter ON. I know they didn't take the splitter off. Mine is an older APR splitter but it looks just like yours. I don't change my own oil so I never even paid attention if it blocked anything for changing oil.

Mine is not on right now for winter or I'd check. I'm pretty sure it does not block the drain plug at all.

Here's a thread with pictures.

Again I do NOT take off my bumper EVER. I assume that's because I did not put in the rods.

You should be able to measure the furtherst holes back on the splitter compared to the holes they mount to and put a string between them to see if it blocks your drain plug. I'm pretty positive mine does not. I KNOW my dealership didn't need to remove it to change my oil/filter on mine. I'm not sure I'd try cutting it...but that's just me.

Thanks fella's you all give me hope!

I called up APR yesterday to ask about this, and the guy told me it WILL block the oil pan/filter. And when i did mention about Cutting a section out, he said that it will create drag, so what I should do when I cut it, is make it so its reattatchable somehow.

But thanks a lot guys, i appreciate all your help

WIthout the rods it's not terribly hard to put on or at least try it in place to see what it blocks. Mine won't be back on for another month or so or I'd run out and look now.

I have no problem reaching the oil filter. Now the only thing thats a b*tch is draining the radiator when the time comes.
