Angry Dealers got us by the *****

It amazes me how the hipe from the long awaited release of this great car makes people lose their minds. People are prepared to pay thousands of dollars over MSRP to insure they have this vehicle...NOW! I've talked with 4 dealers here in Arizona and read most of the posts on the internet. I even found myself caught up in the frenzy too (I have a deposit on a silver EVO at Bell Road Auto Mall). But the bottom line is.. there are people that have the patience to wait for the initial storm to calm down. These people will get an Evo at or below MSRP. The more crap I read about dealers jacking prices to $5000 or higher (over MSRP)makes me even more determined to wait and get the deal I WANT. The guy at Bell road told me he would talk with "the Head dude" to see if he could get him down to ONLY $1000 over MSRP. I'm not paying it! And I'll bet anything I'll have an EVO at or below MSRP this year. By the Way, They have a yellow one not spoken for yet. They also have a Mazda Speed Protege at $3000 over MSRP......If anybody's interested?!?!

To much craze. My advise is wait a while, if you still want it that bad it will still be available and should not cost more(except for maybe exotics) and might be better.

It seem like the closer you live to california the worst the price. If i live in california i'll just buy on in Tennesseeor something and have it trucked for less than 5000 over MSRP I can see a couple of hundred just to get your blood to boil but that is ridculous. I'm guessing dealer bluff. They are probably shooting for 1-2k over.

I'm waiting! I want to see and test drive both STi and Evo before I make my final decision. Besides my SE-R lease is until April, 2005 (though I may terminate it early depending how badly I want either car). Time is definitely on my side.

You really think they're going to let you test drive either? I highly, highly doubt it.

They won't let you test drive it, without a signed contract and money down... it's pretty simple. This car is not going to be beat on by people who have no intention of buying it and reserved for the actually serious people.

I know i would be pretty pissed if my dealer let some punk kid race my car around before i bought it just because he says that he is trying to decide between an Evo and an STi. I have had a deposit on it for almost a year and I better be the first person to drive it that does not work for Mitsu or the trucking company

Fireball - I will let you know in a week or two whether I get to test drive the Evo or not.

I paid a visit yesterday to the dealer who I dealt with in my Galant purchase. I told him that I'm not buying the car for a year or so and only wanted him to give me a call when the car gets in so I can look at it in person. Not only my dealer agreed to call me, he also offered a test drive, when the car gets in. Am I going to turn him down on that offer? Of course not. Is he going to hold that promise? We will find out.

BTW phonikz - I feel the same way too. That's why I also told my dealer that I will not test drive the car if it already has a deposit on it.

Not a problem. Just need to have you sign out first. Helps keep away the riff-raff and joyriders.

Test-drives are cheaper than the local ammusement park.

Guys, I would not expect a chance to test drive these, even with a deposit. I've heard from multiple dealers now that they will not be allowing test drives. Not even from staff. There are plenty of people out there who will buy the car without the test drive (like me).

Think about it this way. The EVO is WAY more car than most people on this board let alone in America ever get the chance to drive. We all know that the only real reason for wanting a test drive with this car is for the fun of it (lets be honest here). knows that too. I don't want anyone "test driving" my EVO. You wouldn't either.

They seriously aren't going to give test drives unless they know your really going to buy it because there are plenty of people out there that will buy the Evo and the STI without a test drive. What's the point in giving a test drive if the dealer isn't even sure your going to buy it when he's certain the guys behind you are dying to buy one no matter what happens.

Guys,

True, there may not be any test driving initialy due to the strong demand. But in time you will be able to take a test drive between the 2 cars before you decide.

Evo, STi or not, I just want to point out that we are still talking about Mitsubishi and Subaru; not Ferrari or Porsche!
