wow, don't you just LOVE racial profiling?

Before I start off...I'd like to give a little bit of background info about myself
I'm 18 year old azn living in Socal...unlike typical evo owners, I really don't abuse the car (after a life-threatening incident changed my view on racing) or race at all...and my car's bone stock (sacriligious to evo i know)..and yes, believe it or not...I'm a law abiding citizen...hard to believe i know

so anyway I'm on my way home from school..there's a hill on the way so i'm just crusing at 50~55...keep in mind, majority of the people tap the brake a bit so that they won't exceed certain speed...so anyway there was this big chevy in front of me (so i coudln't see anything in front) and all of a sudden the gap between me and him closed really fast (he was probably going 65 or so..and remember, the brake light doesn't intensify or anything regardless of how hard you're braking) so of course I was like "wtf" and had to break hard (because the guy was breaking pretty f'in hard) so gap between us closed really fast since I sort of braked too late because I wasn't expecting such a hard braking...so yeah after 2 seconds I see why the guy braked so hard: there was a cop. Anyway when I saw him I was pretty much thinking 'ok I can bet my car that he's going to pull me over and give me BS ticket'...what do you know...next thing I see is him pulling me over. So now i'm thinking 'ok...typical young white cop picking on young azn drivers driving sports car...wonder what he'll do'...so the usual goes with him asking for license and etc...well unfortunately, I forgot to bring my wallet, but I know the license # in my heart so I gave him the registration and license # (he didn't say anything about me not having my license with me at the time...he just asked for my thumb print)...so anyway...the reason he pulled me over is "i was driving too close"...and I'm thinking '...wtf...'...and he goes off saying how there was an accident last night involving 4 cars and crap and im like thinking '...ok and that does anything have to do with this b/c...'...anyway I was simply speechless; I haven't seen such blatant racial profiling. I didn't even argue cuz I just knew this punk wouldn't listen...at the end, he asked me if I had gotten any ticket prior to this (see where this is going?) and I simply answered "yes for lightly modding the car" (modding is illegal in cali)...anyway after that, when I showed my dad the ticket, he was simply outraged and said "you know what son? i'm real tired of this ****...we're fighting this ***** at court till the bitter end"

so..any thoughts?

fight it! man i'm in the same exact shoes your in(except for the ticket). If it was me i would fight it all the way. Personally i would have lost it and most likely would have mouthed off to the cop, then gotten arrested. But this stuff is crazy, these cops are out of control. What i do now is keep a digital recorder in my car hidden, and once i get pulled over i turn it on and record everything the cop says because i'm out to bring down these dirty cops. By the way its not illegal to tape a convo with a police officer. A wire tap only requires one persons conssent, and thats yours. Just remember to hide it and not let the cop see it. Then when it comes court time, play that back and let the judge hear it. Best of luck to you though, hope you win

No offense dude, but I see absolutely nothing in your story that leads me to believe that you were profiled. It sounds like he just stated a series of facts as he saw them. You're lucky he didn't give you a ticket for not having your license -- last I heard, that's a "gimmie" for a cop in just about any state.

Is it possible that it's just a case of wrong place at the wrong time, or are there details that you haven't included?

Sounds more like evo profiling than racial profiling to me.. but who knows, most cops(all cops that I've personally delt with) are pieces of sh#t. Fight it man, good luck.

I think that's a more likely story. Playing a victim because you fall into a so-called "minority" category went out of style years ago.

Before you react to racisim with more racisim, just remember that cops work for, get paid by, and represent our rapidly expanding, freedom hating, government. Not the white race.

I think we should start asking for the **shole officers names and badge #”s and start a poll thread posting results. For the **shole cop of the year award.

I agree, don't see too much racial profiling in that story. There are asians all over my college campus driving very nice sports cars (evos, sti's) and luxury cars (lexus, acura) and I've never seen the pulled over or hassled or anything. It might have been a stupid ticket and maybe you could have explained the situation or just wait and explain it to the judge, but you are a little quick to pull the race card on this one.

Maybe if the dude used like "you guys" or "your kind" or something like that in his statement that directly meant your asian race. I mean what is the cost of the ticket, like 50 bucks? Not that big a deal.

this is what i do. once a cop is beind you and you see them looking up and down more than 3 times in the direction of theis right, they are running your plates. I normally slow down so they are up my ***. give them time to do their ****. i know i am clean. when i notice they find out the same i wave to them as if to saw see ya b!tch.
i dont advise this but they do not like it. its like speeding off & rolling your tires after you have been pulled over

I agree with dcorn. Doesn't appear to be racial profiling to me. From your story he didn't make any type of racial comments. I'm not trying to say he wasn't disrespectful, he probably was. From my experiences, it didn't help not having your license. You can't control whether or not he give you a ticket. Asking you if you had a previous ticket doesn't seem like an "out of the ordinary" question to me. I hope everything works out for you man.
