EVO8 takes 1st place in SCCA Snow Drift Rally
How come the lights on these Evo are different from the Evo rally car that
had in the LA auto show. In these picture, these Evos have JDM lights and that makes me wonder if they are JDM spec. The rally Evo in LA auto show has US lights.

I'm going to answer your questions without really answering them:
The way rallying works it doesn't really matter what 'exact spec' the car 'began' as. The whole thing gets torn apart and built up into a rally car (roll cage.). The interior is totally stripped etc.. so trivial things like whether it is jdm or euro spec really mean nothing.
These cars are Open Class Lancer Evolutions...that is their spec. The headlights were just temporary and the USA 'spec' lights will be put in shortly...
The Open class rally cars all have electronic center diffs, and they definetly would never have AYC. They have HKS built engines that pump out in excess of 400 hp and have an est 442 lb/ft torque.

Also, since you mentioned active center differential, is that the same one as the JDM versions are equipped with (with probably a different ECU code) or those are completely after market units?
Thanks a lot!

Ok heres the deal.
In rally cars the front, center, and rear diffs can be locked and unlocked, with switches. Thats what RalliArtUSA, is talking about when he says electronic center diff. Its nothing like the production car. Along with that, in rally racing you do use the emergency brakes a bit, but in awd car thats bad, basically would bust the diffs. So built in electronically, whenever they pull the emergency brakes it automatically releases the locks on the center diff.

True...I just didn't go into extreme details about it...they can vary anything they wanted in those cars, if you've been in one you'll notice adjustments for almost anything. Its really cool. Especially when they're racing, the driver is pretty busy flippin all kinds of switches.
hmm didn't know about the hand brake disengagement on the EVOs, guess I learned something new.
Are the WRX's like that? How about older AWD cars?
Or is that a fairly new thing for production cars?
thanks

The rally cars are basicaly EVO VII'w with the US spec front bumper cover. The EVO VIII RS's are not yet, or at least were not available to build rally cars from.
As the VIII is not even homologated worldwide, some of us are waiting to see if the 6speed or 5speed will get homolgated so we can start looking for a car to build. Basicaly if you want to rally the EVO, you will have to import one from Europe or Japan. The US car will need bunch more mods, will cost more and etc.

I think that STi had the same feature in their DCCD equipped cars. Also, I do remember a while back that this was a part of some other cars used for the WRC (like the Lancia Delta S4 for example), but don't know if any other production cars had it or not.
Still thanks for your info!!
