new evo clutch did something funny and then a horrible smell , need advice on problem

hey i recently purchased a 2005 evo 8 i only have 2300 miles on it and i was at a red light today and i tried to see what the car had acceleration wise since i have never tried to see what it can do. i reved the car up to about 3500 rpms and eased the clutch out quickly, when i released my clutch all the way all that happened was that my car reved up to 7000 rpms and my car wasnt going anywhere. i quickly let off the gas after i realized what was happening. after that i smelled a horrible smell (clutch i think). can anybody tell me what happened? i have only launched my car 3 times since i have had it and im not always on the pedal, i pay too much money for the car to rag it out and i was wondering if anybody could give me some advice.

You transferred all that power from 3500rpm to 7000rpm as heat to the clutch material and hopefully didn't ruin the clutch, and burn the clutch material up on the flywheel.

I'd take it easy on the clutch for the next few days, and NEVER let out the clutch easy on a launch again.

You also might have a badly adjusted clutch pedal from the factory. I'd take it to the dealer and have them check and adjust the clutch pedal if that's what is necessary.

you were burning your clutch, you could have overheated it so it was slipping more, or just could be slipping, evo clutches are known to do that, how could you have launched your car 3 times if u have never seen what it can do?

Toast but hopefully not toasted. Take it easy on the clutch. You probably in that one action, removed half the clutch disc. It should be ok, but don't try that again.

Start saving your pennies that is what all the hoopla over the stock clutch is about. You get to do that "smell" thing a few times before you are done.

after 1000 miles i raced it against a brand new sti, i dindt know anything about a 5000 rpm rev limiter on the new evos. i wasnt trying to see what i could do i was just trying to bang out and beat the sti. i never tried to see what i could do and monitor everything at the same time. so i read up on launching my car on another thread and they told me to rev my car to about 3500 rpms and really quickly let out on the clutch not completly drop it but almost. so thats what i did and thats what happened when i tried it.
