Why add more power....?
hmmm... i modify for a lotta the reasons already said. interest, fun, achievement, learning, performance etc. i think the evo is a great performer outta the box... but that's the thing... the outta the boxness is its limitation. lots of restrictive stuff... so as far as modding is concerned... i just get rid of those things. and modding is not always for power... i want spool and pedal feel more than power. also suspensions is one of the things that most serious evo owners do. lots of muellerized evos out there...

Well my car is stock still. I havnt modded it yet because I am still under the (perhaps false) belief that mitsu will fix any warranty problems with my car.
To me, the actualy cost of the mods isnt that big of a deal. Im much more worried about taking on the finanical liability of having an unwarranteed performance car than anything else.
I definitely get the urge to mod though. Some of it has to do with the huge rush of power and great handling ability, but honestly, I get a lot of satisfaction with just having a fast car in the first place. Just knowing what my car would be capable of if I put a few grand in would bring a lot of satisfaction to me. So I guess if I ever decide to do so, this is why I think modding would be cool.
But then im one of those guys where the grass is always greener on the other side. Nothing is ever enough, ya know? Even if i had a sweet ferrari or something I would always want the next best thing. Its a disease, really. I envy those who are always satisfied with what they have.

Its fun, sounds better and u learn so much about ur car Like when my oil line for the turbo came off I knew exactly what is was instead of an ALL STOCK car with a drive that might not even know where the oil return line is. I was on the side of the road for like 5mins VS. Tow truck that can take hrs.
It's a hobby man... plain and simple... ppl do it because of that...
and i do agree with you 100% about the dragracing stuff... i think dragracing is a full step backwards in the car's Evolution...
but to each their own...
I'm into handling too, road courses and such... here's the thing... I/E/BC/Flash is gonna give you better power outta turns, and more entry speed at the in-turn... and here's the one thing that's a big advantage, and that's the parts in between, the straights, you need a lil' bump in power that those mods give you to help keep those cars that you kicked their asses in the turns back where they belong... it's fun to put more clicks in between you and them...
and, here's a side benefit... the audible pleasure... the car with those mods sounds so raw, like a rally car... like how it sounds on WRC... it helps you hear her true voice, it's nasty track stomping aggression, which really does add to the driving pleasure...

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but here's my opinion, I'm 20 years old, been driving my evo for a year now, and I really have no burning desire to modify it. All I have is the AEM short ram intake, which helped eliminate that boost choking feel upon throttle release and added a better sound. I have evo 7 tails and the UK evo 8 badge. I'm happy...but people just keep urging me to add more power.
When I drive this thing on windy roads, which is where the evo is at it's best, I feel that my stock HP is completely sufficient. The suspension is perfect, the brakes are great. What's the deal with so many young people modifying their cars only to drive it around as a commuter or drag racing from stoplights or highway pulls. I just don't see the need. I don't take pride in beating other cars on straightaways...A little girl can add power...no skill in pulls, aside from learning to maybe launch your car, which is not what the evo is for anyway. Boring boring boring...I say all real driving skill is found in autox, rally, and road courses, or any other motorsport involving actually turning the steering wheel, adjusting throttle, brake, and clutch input.
Drag racing was cool in like...the 60s and 70s with muscle cars, GM, Ford, giant V8s.. but who the hell wants to hear turbos, blowoffs, nitrous purging at a stoplight. Japanese cars are meant to turn!
Just my opinion. Hopefully I'll get some flames and maybe someone who agrees...
btw...I'm aware this topic has most likely been discussed before. But I've been dealing with the issue lately, so I felt like speaking my mind someplace.

were practically on the same boat..I *used* to have AEM SRI (had to take it off cuz ANY type of modification to the engine in Cali is illegal...) but i'm content with car just the way it is..i dont plan on doing anything to it besides maybe changing the front and rear bumper to evo 9s...i just hate the hideous looking nose of the car....
ur right; personally, i dont see any point of going straightaway to beat someone...but then again, i'm not really into racing at all...so...meh...

if you bought an evo after having a slower car, then you wouldnt feel the need.. so if its ***** out fast to you, than cool, to me, it actually feels alot slower than the car i just got out of it, so i need mods to fix that problem.
