who cares about what the magazines think. if you like the car, then go buy the car. if you think the evo ix is not worth trading over the viii, then dont. this is a forum for people to share their experience with the evo they have and or ask questions. it is not a place to whine and care what other people think. grow up and think for yourself. dont let a magazine does the thinking for you. if you are, then you're a tool.
I think most evo owners agree that the IX indeed has some nice new features, but are not about to take a 10k+ loss on a 2-3 year old VIII just to trade up for one.
Anyways, I think the mags are good at rating SUV's, luxury cars, and econo cars. But not small niche sports cars like the evo. They get sick of the evo just like middle life crisis men get sick of their vettes after a couple years and trade in for a Caddy.
But also "consumers" is a broad term. Im sure most people would agree with the sentiments in the car magazines. But these are the same people who wont buy a car unless consumer reports endorses it, gets a 5 star crash rating, good mileage, etc. Hardly the common evo crowd.

IX is not out here in states, so wait and see. don't say it so sure that IX is definitely better or more mod friendly than the VIII.
mag never have accurate information about upcoming import cars!!!
MIVEC is not yet proven.
4G63 with turbo has been proven for more than 10 years and VIII has the best one ever.

Bashing the IX is ridiculous if you are an VIII owner...if you don't like the IX there is no logical reason to like the VIII either. The IX is better in every way. And don't whine about the non-Japanese rear bumper! I swear I never saw so many people upset over one of the least functional body panels in a car....if you don't like it b/c it looks like the last EVO....GO BUY AN AFTERMARKET BUMPER...thats what they are there for! You do want to MOD the car, right?
