who says a stock evo is not fast from a 60mph+ roll?

normally i'm not the type of guy who street races even if it is an empty highway late at night.. but i was on my way home and this early 2000 mustang gt come flying out of nowhere, does a ricer flyby, and puts on his hazards way down the line.. i was like wtf? no way... so i caught up to him as he slowed down, pulled right behind him and just waited for him to gun it.. he did, and chased right after him.. i didn't pull on him hard, but he definitely was not going anywhere. if anything i think i was creeping up on him.. well, we were going past 100.. maybe i was drafting? and, i did just put in 3/4 tank of 100 octane; but my evo is completely stock! and he was definitely modded because that wasn't a stock sounding gt stang.. none the less, it was fun, and there was a part of me thinking he would have smoked me bad..

anyways, we did a couple cat and mouse chases, and we started seeing some traffic so we slowed down.. pull to the side of him and he was cool.. gave me a smile, and i gave him a thumbs up, and i pulled off cuz it was my exit..

Good run, but this post will probably be deleted, you got to read guideline, No Street Racing. Still good run, give Mustangs hell.

If it was a cobra, I'd say wow, but I know that's impossible. Hate to say it, but keeping up with a (even if modded) gt does not prove that the stock Evo isn't lagging in the higher speeds... Even with minimal mods (I/E/tune) I put 6 car lengths on a modded GT from a 20mph roll...

yeah what he said. take the same scenario & add a 100 mph curve & see if the mustang is so close... how come you never see mustangs in autoX if they are so great?????

There are a few in my region that give me all I want in ESP. (03/04 cobra's anyway) With some race rubber and some minor suspension(sp) adjustments they can be pretty mean. Now I am not Daddio's caliber or the top guys on here, but I am not bad either. I usually take out my friends by about a half sec. to a sec. depending on the course. They are pretty good drivers as well. They are by no means the fastest cars out there, but they are not dogs either.

These are the new cobras I am talking about, you may be right about the GT's being dogs

the evo isnt slow from a 60+ roll, even stock. It may be a bit slower than other cars with the same horsepower up top, but stock evo vs. stock mustang gt, evo should have the upper hand. I'm not even talking about taking a turn here either...

Stock evos are not that bad up top, but there not that great either. I've got a friend with an integra gsr with I/E/H and although I walk him up top, its not by a whole lot. My evo just sort of starts to creep out on him. Steady but only a slow creep. I have a cat-back and drop in.

i had a run in with a 98 cobra the first week when i had my evo, i bogged off the line, and he ended up pulling me by a car, if i didnt bog i would of had him by a car. Just last week I found out he runs low 13's.

I'd have to agree that stock EVO's aren't bad at all from 60mph on up. In fact, for the first time last night I gunned my EVO from 0 to top speed (pretty much about 157 mph) on a closed course . It felt pretty fast to me! Too bad I'm not modding her. I can't imagine what only simple bolt-ons would do to this car!

I've went head to head with quite a few mustangs in my time. The ones that I always think I am going to lose to are the runs from a high speed roll. They always want to start somewhere around 80 MPH or so and take off. Being fair, I let it happen, and I always end up seeing their headlights in both side mirrors. I remember this one time that a black 2003 GT punched it from a dead stop...(we'll call it a staging light). I didn't even think he had it in him, but he took off like a bullet while I was still sitting still trying to pick a song on the CD player. I instantly realized my mistake and took off. As I went into boost in first, he chirped 2nd gear and got sideways. I eventually caught up around 110 MPH. I got beside him and gave him a thumbs-up while pacing him. He shook his head and we kept accelerating. Right around 135, his car suddenly went backwards fast. I got my car up to a spedo reading of 155 and then I shut it down. He flew by me a couple seconds after that. I gave chase and followed him for a couple of minutes. When he stopped, I said "nice car, what all have you done to her?" He replied "headders, exhaust, intake, chipped, clutch...What about you?" I replied "intake, boost controler." He asked what size motor my car had, so I told him. At that point, it seemed like he got upset. He asked me why I needed such a large wing (this was when I have my 2003 GSR, not my current RS) and what those huge red bananna-looking things were inside my wheels. I tried explaining aerodynamics to him and what is needed for a car with my shape. He just stared at the wing and laughed. Then when I defended the brake calipers, he shook his head and said "whatever, riceboy." So instantly I said "I'm sorry, what just happened? Did you just jump off the line, get caught, and then get put in the rear-view by a car with half the number of cylinders and twice the number of doors? Surely I'm mistaken. There's no way 'riceboy' could have taken your GT. Maybe you should have bought a Cobra." Then I drove away. I love rednecks. I really do.
