Fuel Efficient Mods
Some sort of tune is the only thing I can really think of for sure... but some people say that even that doesn't really increase your gas mileage... I'm thinking that an exhaust might also... but... I dunno... it all depends on your driving style... you could do EVERYTHING and get great gas mileage if you drive around shifting before 4k and hardly going into boost.
I would think the only way to increase MPG is to just shift at low RPMs. You might be looking at a slight increase in MPG if u get a TBE and a tune, but i cant say for certain. The last resort, if your desperate and have lots of $$, is a stand-alone EMS. This will let u custom tune your fuel trims and u could definitely turn down the boost for light driving. Cant really think of anything else.

I would say just about any mods that increase power should increase engine efficiency at the same time, however, if you are making and using the extra HP gained more fuel will be spent to keep the air fuel ratio safe. There may be some extreme mods that increase spool or shift the power band higher that could send it the other way. Biggest impacts would be state of tune at full throttle but at part throttle the ECU should self correct if it's in the proper range. Like the previous poster said you could do the mods to 400 HP then put a block of wood under the accelerator pedal. By adjusting how far you can open the throttle you could dyno the car back down to stock HP levels and I can almost guarantee you will be more fuel efficient. Reducing the boost levels to drop the HP would also make a similar change.
As far as the real world we all know that when power is available we usually end up using it.
Removing weight from the car has no real drawbacks as long as it's not safety equipment and would only boost mileage. Making the car more aerodynamic would also help. As long as you keep your foot out of it the engine can more easily flow the hp and you will get better MPG.

Intake and exhaust.. just let the car breathe better.. once u start getting bigger injectors, fuel rails, fuel pump, and all that is when gas milege kills you. If you are that concerned about it, get a used hatchback crx or something so you get like 45mpg.. they are only about 800 bux. lol. It would be cheaper than modding ur car while still trying to achieve good gas mileage.
A re-flash that will lean out the mixture, I have actually pulled 27-31 mpg out of my 05 RS driving a steady 65-70mph keeping it out of boost. I tried doing that in my 04 RS and only managed 23-24mpg. The 05 seems to run leaner. I also only got 15.5mph in the 05 flying to Las Vegas on a back road. I thought I was going to run out of gas before State Line. The 05 tailpipe seems to stay clean , my 04 showed soot.
Mods before tuning average = 19-20mpg
After reflash for turboback (w/HF cat), RMR intake, mbc set to about 20-21psi and Forge bov = 21-22mpg
Pretty much same driving style with some "mbc tuning" added in there.

_i got 300+ mile per gallon when my clutch started to slip at 3000 rpm.
maybe you could make the disc slip at 5000 rpm, then you wont go over it.
