Question for Dynoflashed Evo MR owners...

I am planning to get the new Evo IX MR but i def do not want the rev limiter on there....those who have had their Evo MR's dynoflashed...are you guys experiencing any clutch wear and tear or transmission problems due to the rev limiter being taken off? I've heard that Mitsubishi strengthened the later models of Evo VIII trannies but wasn't sure how accurate that rumor is.

Just asking because i'm wondering which part to go with? Bolt ons or transmission rebuild?

thanks, Ghost

You could remove the rev limter by unpluggin the switch that is connected to the clutch pedal.. As of right now I have not heard anyone having flash for the Evo IX due to the mivec head.. But I might be wrong..

But eventually someone will probably come out with a reflash for the IX even with its variable valve timing, no?

I have a MR and I removed the fail safe switch rev limiter. It is all about how hard you launch your EVO, I mean, the rev limiter is just going to slow you down on your 60' times. I am having my EVO MR dynoflash next week, I am going to raise the rpm red zone up to 8000rpm as well.
Stay tune for updates

I would keep the 5k limiter on there..It works great at the track..I don't rally see the need to up your rev limit to 8000 either unless you are running some cams and a bigger turbo..FYI I have an 05 MR w/dynoflash

What kind of 60 foot times are you getting with the limiter removed??I just dont see them being much better then launching off of the limiter..Using the limiter I've got consistant 1.7x's

I thought you said your best was 1.83. When did you get consistent 1.7x's??

1.8x is not good at all. 1.6x is good while 1.7x is decent. If the limiter keeps us in the low 1.8x's, then it's definitely "limiting" from a drag-racing perspective. From a clutch and tranny perspective, though, launching off the limiter might not be so bad.

Next trip to the track, I plan to do both several times (with and without the limiter) to see what happens on the stock clutch.

Read my other posts, I've been to the track twice since then and have used the limiter ever since..1.83 was without using the limiter as my best 60 ft time, since I started using it have gotten 1.7's at a track that is the equivelant to launching out of a cinder pit!! 12.84@107 is my new best..I could not believe I was hitting 107, with that trap speed I think I could lower my et as well..And it seems to be alot less wear on the clutch BTW due to less slippage..My car is stock with a dynoflash..I will be installing a test pipe only next time I go to see what kind of difference that makes, should put me at 108 trap speeds!!Once you use the limiter you probably wont want to launch it any other way, give it a try..
