IMO, it's responses like that that will make them write you up for every last thing.

I've been ticketed for 15 over, and I've been let go for racing in the middle of a city's 25mph zone.
Moral? If you're stupid, take responsibility for yourself and your actions and do the right thing imo.
btw: Only reason I was "let go" from the illegal street racing (which I could have been taken to jail for) was because I was "on the job" at the time, and on the way home from my job at the time (prison officer). I never thought I'd be a geek and um....open my jacket to display my badge, but I had no shame that day!
It's not legal for them to search any locked compartment of a vehicle without a warrant or just cause. Just cause though can be just about anything that they think will work in front of a judge.
out here is cali, every cop that has pulled me over tries to pop my hood. i just call my attorney! hahaha, i haven't had my hood poped since i had my civic, about 6 years ago.
but, yes cali cops try ALL the time!

They want you to be afraid to exercise your rights. They'd like nothing more than to be able to set up roadblocks and do blood tests and searches of "suspicious" drivers and cars. The founding fathers went to great lengths to protect us from exactly that kind of thing. Don't give that up just because you're afraid of pissing off a cop. Remember who they work for and that they're not above the law, either.
I always give cops a hard time, but do it with calm, arrogant, precise terminology Never ever ever let them in your car, never let them do anything. NEVER ADMIT TO ANYTHING. A lto of times they pull you over for speeding, and they cant prove it as they only know you were going fast but not know how fast, so what do they do?
"You know why I pulled you over?"
Most idiots admit to speeding, and there you go...

I absolutely agree!! Be firm but polite, know the laws in your area, keep a good attitude, and most of all.... do not give the officer a reason to write you up. Most of the control is in YOUR hands, and if you pi*s him off or come at him with an attitude, you will get the tickets for the tints, the exhaust, the illegal lane change or just about anything he can find.

If you know you're right, and they are wrong, bust em in court.
It's more fun when the Prosecuting Attourney comes up to you before the session even starts and offers to drop everything.
Let them have their fun, burn their a$$ in court. I've had much more success that way. But then again, I generally don't get too much **** from police, especially after they see the child seat. guess I don't the stereotype
I got pulled over in Cali at a sting type operation outside of my school (most cops I've ever seen in one place...) and a detective from DragNet (special anti-street racing deal the setup) asked me "Would you pop your hood please?" I was just trying to be cooperative, so I did and I got written up for illegal engine modifications and had to take my car to a smog referree :/
Anyways about a week later I was talking to my friend who had been a police cadet for about a year at the time, he told me that they actually couldn't make you open your hood, that since he asked me (and didn't give a command) that I could have said no and he wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Though he is only a cadet so I'm not quite sure if thats completely true or not...
