How and why would Mitsubishi claim 0-60 in less than 5 seconds?
Their web site still claims less than 5 seconds.
So far no magazine has been able to do it.
Some car companies (Porsche) are very conservative with their numbers.
Why make bogus claims when you will just disapoint customers.
Mitsubishi must test in ideal conditions with 100 octane fuel!
I hope the mags are wrong.

) of 2002, due to the attempt of making a picture for the front cover with the car sliding on the wet. After few attempts, the last one ended up by hitting the water track. They barely managed to fix the car before the National Championship which took place at the beginning of September. When they got there, car had COOB sticker missing from the one of the doors. It looks to me that was when this accident happened.

"The gist of the story is Cobb brought the car for an AWD shootout being set up by SCC. I guess there was an Evo there and some Skylines and Audi's and whatnot. Anyhow, an experienced driver #9 from SCC gets out there and tries to throw the car into a corner and winds up driving into a water truck."

For those that are not aware, this car has the 2.5L block and puts down roughly 420AWHP with a SR50 Turbo!
In the Road and Track article where the Evo VIII did 0-60 in 5.1 and 1/4 in 13.8, at the end of the article where they give you the specs on what testing conditions were, they say they used 91 octane gas. If you used 94 octane, you'd probably run 5 or lower to 60, 13.5 or so in the quarter.
Maybe that is the cause of the disparities in the figures from mags and the manufacturer.

Also, note that based on Road & Track's figures, the Evo 8 would have come in near the top of some of these tests, and these cars are heavily modified. It would have come in 3rd in braking, 3rd in slalom and 3rd in skidpad, bone stock. not bad at all.

Finally someone starting to realize what I've been saying all along.
I have a g35 sedan and even though the power weight is about the same, there is no way in the world that thing could get to 60 in hardly less than 6. Automatic and open diff with skinny tires don't cut it...
