Painting Tip of Tarmac Evo.?!?

I got too close to the wall and scrape the 1/4 panel... its about an 18 inch by 1 inch wide.. it isnt too bad of damage and i want it fixed... body shop quote me $500-$700 to paint that little part... seems ridiculous so im gone try to do it myself since its not too big...

any tips of the type of paint and techniques i should use?

Man, you can't be serious. I wouldn't recommend trying...

tarmac black is one of the hardest to do it. but if you know how to do some painting jobs maybe you can do it. one more thing you cannot just paint the scratch on youre 1/4 pannel you have to paint the whole 1/4 pannel find some more body shop get some quotes.

Same here. Unless you paint cars for a living or have done it before -- I wouldn't do it. There is more to than just painting the spot - they have to blend it with the other parts of the car...lots of details. Find another paint shop and see if they can charge less.

Paint jobs on black cars suck. Be very careful with who you trust to do it.

Uhhhhmmmm, Factory paint and clear coat. Probably use an even back and forth spraying technique with a professional sprayer.

black is one of the hardest colors to paint and if you are asking for tips you dont know how to paint therefore get it done at a body shop or you might as well get a can of spray paint because it will look like crap anyways.

Black is probably one of the easiest to spray, blend and match. Metallics, pearls, candys, tri-coat colors, etc get much more difficult. However, I agree....easy decision here....get it done right, and don't skimp on costs. $500 isn't unreasonable at all. I'm sure you can find someone to do it for less, but why? Get it done right and maintain the value of your car. If you want cheap repairs buy a cheap beater....don't convert yours into one.

Getting macaco to do a repaint on an Evo is equal to putting APC parts on your Evo. Maaco will do a horrible job, trust me. But if your into orange peal, go for it. Seriously is a $30,000 car, spend the 500 bucks to get it done right.....

you just contradicted yourself. If they had done a terrific job, it would have went unnoticed.

i had a smug friend who got his entire car repainted there. It was a white car painted blue or some crap. Anywho, he came over and we were just sitting around looking at the paint. I noticed some parts were whiter than other area that was bodykitted. He was sitting on his hood and when he stood up. His blue paint cracked a bit and chipped off showing the original white under. I would think that you would have to paint the whole quarter panel and then some just to get it to blend in, probably why its so expensive. Also it is probably a hard color to match because there is a metalic element to Tarmac black. If you are going to Maaco watch for orange peal on the paint (I had a previous experience with them and my wifes Civic)
