Sticking throttle? RPM's keep rising? Even clutch out!

Well I have noticed a very weird problem on my 03 EVO. There were more than a handful of times during the last couple months where when I was high RPM shifting, after letting out the clutch, the car continued to rise in RPM's like I didnt even let off the throttle! I KNOW I let off the throttle and released the clutch. RPMS just kept going up. Didnt redline are anything, since after 1-2 secs it came back down. The throttle pedal isnt sticking, do you folks think it is something in the throttle cable? When I test in the engine bay, everything looks fine moving the throttlecable by hand.

Thanks again!

Alfred

same thing happened to mine and i have the base lancer. I tried returning the throttle the other way by putting my foot on the other side and pulling it back up but it seems like the engine has a life of it's own.

there is a huge thread about this somewhere, search for it. next time it happens, press and release the clutch, they should drop back down.

How weird! I run a SSQV too! But I dont think the BOV can cause it, right?

its not the blowoff valve, theres a pretty big thread about this but ill try to sum it up:

on the 03 evos theres a program in the ECU that detects high rev shifting, and to help keep the rpms up inbetween shifts, it gives the engine a little bit of throttle when you push in the clutch, even when you have completely let off the gas. it is normal so dont be alarmed. when you want to return it to normal just shift into neutral, let the clutch out then clutch in again.

also if you want to get rid of this you can disconnect the switch on the clutch pedal

Do you think you can point me to the post that can explain the whole situation? I dont want to disconnect the clutch switch if I dont have it. Its an added insurance for me. I might be able to build a relay that shuts off the signal of the clutch switch when the car is running but I wanted to be very familar with the problem before I attempt so.

The problem , showed it self again tonight. Its just funny how the rpms keep rising when you just stepped on the clutch and let off the gas. It went almost as hight as 7000 rpm this time. I am just worried it will hit redline, and shifting in those comditions are not ideal either.

Thanks again!

Disconnected the clutch switch today. Same problem still happens. Any other clues?

Thanks!
